*** This review is from the perspective of a tablet newcomer, I have no comparison to other tablets. ***
I was looking for a tablet that I can drag around the house, for example. Can be used in front of the television or in the kitchen for coffee. Fast times googled what, read the news or a game to pass the time. Elaborate office work was not planned.
After much deliberation and reading reviews until you drop, stood for me as a tablet and smartphone Noobie objectors only the Intenso Intenso 814 TAB814 5,510,862 20.3 cm (8 inch) tablet PC (ARM Cortex A9, 1.5GHz dual-core , 1GB RAM, 8GB HDD, HDMI, Wifi, WLAN, Micro SD, Micro USB, Android 4.1) and this black ODYS NEO S8 to choose from.
The reason for this: entry-Tablet, max. 150 Euros (new), 8 "dual-core> 1GHz, 1GB RAM. Since the 814 but then had a longer delivery time, I opted for the NEO. Technical data and accessories can read it elsewhere, I will confine myself on's Wensentliche.
Getting used to, of course, the switch from more than 15 years Windows, mouse and keyboard on Linux with touchscreen. But no problem. A few wrong finger movements at the beginning you get resolved fix again.
Setting up Wi-Fi is just as fast as Apple or Ubuntu. The reception is very good and remarkably fast.
At first I was the 800x600 resolution critical of it reminds me of the times of 14 "monitors. But with a suitable browser (eg. Chrome) is not a problem because you can adjust how the webpage should behave. Even the selection of a link is displayed in a magnifying glass window will be maximized.
One of the first new apps was an indication of CPU and memory utilization, over here I'm always happy in the picture.
The NEO8 in itself is quite large, as well as needs to be a 10-inch model ?? It is also relatively heavy, for hours, I can not hold in the hand without it. So bear lay on the knees or on the table.
In addition, the edges are rounded and not at my device, a slight edge (frame) protrudes. But for 130 Euros to absorb fully. However, "soft", rounded edges are certainly more pleasant.
If you press too much from behind on the back wall, streaks appear on the display. The display is smooth and prone to greasy fingerprints. The low resolution is initially annoying, but you get used to it. Fonts appear slightly blurred, as if they had a shadow. In sunlight, the display is almost impossible to read. Whether a matte screen film helps here would even worth trying. In dark rooms, even the darkest display setting is still too bright.
The battery is a big hit: After 6 hours Wi-Fi, gamble and still try around just under 50%.
The camera is scary, not even be used for video conferencing. So when encryption by facial recognition, I am skeptical about whether I get the device then unlocked ...
The sound of the speaker is similar to that of monitors with speakers. Nothing fancy, just standard.
The unit heats up. Not unpleasant, but it is warm, so it is hoped that it does not cover any ventilation slots. I've found still no, but a water cooling system can also be difficult to obstruct ... :-)
Whether Android 4.1.1 now is better or worse than other versions, I can not judge. However me the speed of the device continues to surprise. Without delay I jump through the directories, the Apps Start right away, it can have many apps running simultaneously and trailer there's a few (particularly common in Android web browser). Even the test with a 3D shooter was terrific: no stuttering or trailer I could convey to the afterlife Zombies ;-)
As a tip for those who do not have a credit card and a PayPal account, but still want to buy Apps: Amazon offers its own app store that runs on the client account. Just enter "apps" in the search line. Perfect for me and the tender. And you get a pay day free app.
My Conclusion:
As an alternative to netbook for occasional surfing's watching television, gamble for fun, try out apps and up-to-date to be-the ODYS NEO S8 is perfectly adequate. For more quality you put even more Euros on the table.
Greeting & until recently
