A young Swedish woman is hired as a "guardian" to a supposedly crazy man (in fact, autistic) in England in the 60 characters and contours of the characters are certainly well described but I find the style and script unattractive. Between Mary Higgins Clark and Daphne du Maurier (to whom R. Rendell picnic in my opinion a bit of garden ...), the novel is a bit long in the end for some really unexpected events found there . The narrator delves into his old memories of 35 years to tell us what happened in this family composed mainly of people crazy half. But the expressions and phrases like "at that time, I did not know what was going to happen", "I will not know until later," "I could not doubt me," "future events" ... put us waiting an incredible thing, at least pretty awful. In the end, I was disappointed with the outcome. The relationship between the Swedish and the young "patient" is in my opinion not sufficiently developed, the 4 sisters too caricatured ... In short, a pseudo-suspense novel where you can expect something, but focuses mainly on physical and the psychic characters and less on events.
