Gigaset DX800A corded hybrid telephones with voicemail and integrated DECT base station, analog, ISDN, VoIP (ALL-IP) (Electronics)

Customer Review

After initial enthusiasm about the many great features is the daily fast disillusionment occurred. We use the DX800A as a base station in a small office with several Gigaset handsets (SL400, S79, S810). I focus mainly on the weaknesses - strengths can piece together from the product description.
1) Firmware not mature: already crashing the web interface, can only be remedied by restarting.
2) No continuous operation: in order to use all features you need to install the software Gigasync, use the web interface and the device menu. You need some training until you know which level you have to use for a particular setting. At no point can you access to all features!
3) If both lines are occupied, you can hear a beep when another call arrives. This can not be disabled and annoying talking to customers massively! [Note: as mentioned below, this could be the call waiting beep just - I could not test it]
4) Central phonebook sounds better than it is in practice. The handsets do not resort to the PBX phone book. You have either of the system from the phone list from Outlook (does not work with all versions!) Via Gigasync and USB cable the base station and the hand parts synchronize (Unfortunately, there are always duplicate entries because existing ones are not recognized), or you have Send each device - device device. This is slow and also always leads to false entries.
The Outlook Sync will only work with an address book in "Personal Folders", which is not mentioned anywhere. An address in a different .pst file is not recognized. According to some forum entries at least Outlook 2010 x64 appears not to be working.
In practice, even small changes to the data result in a great effort. Even complicated it is when on individual handsets additional numbers are performed (eg private numbers of bosses). Because of the frequent sync error can not help but to constantly clear the device lists completely and to make a complete re-transmission - thereby going private contacts of course lost.
Theoretically, you can upload via the web interface VCF files. To me it is not managed by any software to export a suitable format. The import is always failed or only the first record was acquired.
5) The phone directory sorted by last name only and show only the name, not the company. The search function is always working from left to right. So you can not search for names or parts of names.
6) Support of Gigaset is very bad. In the "Customer Care" forum almost exclusively customers are traveling. Of the Gigaset employees there is usually no reaction. At some point, the Forum is also called customer self-help. Telephone Support runs on an expensive 0900 number and e-mail support requires several days for a response kit.

[Supplement:
7) The response time of the ABs can only be set at the same time for all. Ie you can not set an AB with immediate Announcem and simultaneously define a delay for another AB.
8) An AB must always be associated with an active device! So you can not define a non-ringing call for a pure notice-announcement. Once the mapped device is no longer registered on the system, the associated AB is turned off.
]

For the better: With the VoIP integration the system is actually very flexible. You can select the outgoing number / line for each call or each device.

[Supplement:
With the default VoIP providers, the configuration is a breeze. Simply VOIP Provider Select and you have to do is enter username and password. All the settings such as STUN server etc. are automatically filled in.]

The web interface is very convenient, but covers only a few functions. The headset connector is reasonably well resolved (You must, however, only an additional speed-dial key define).
The RSS feed is just a stupid gimmick with no real practical benefits, the calendar function for lack of PC-balance as well.
The processing and the voice quality is decent, the DECT range but only moderately.

Overall, go for our daily use the good things in the many quirks and the complicated operation of the address book (in companies use important) below. Support of Gigaset is so bad that we will look around in the future with other companies.
Who needs any support and who does not need the phone book, can the plant but quite happy.

Addition to the handsets: only the SL400 has a directly accessible USB port. With the other hand parts necessary to remove a fairly tight-fitting battery cover to get to the internal USB port. The belt clip must be removed to do so. However, this sitting so tight that you need to apply quite a force.
