Small, practical Lightbringer with slight darkness drops

Fenix UC35 Battery LED lamp 960 lumens with USB Connection (equipment)

Customer Review

One thing first: I hate Battery lamps.
That's pretty much the stupidest thing that can happen: battery in the wild already empty the lights go out. With a battery lamp I get to emergency at any gas station or in any Asian 7-Eleven without problems a couple of spare batteries for me again to see the light. With a battery lamp on the other hand I am in the dark and stay there also.
Nevertheless, I bought the UC35, which I will keep well. Why? Read!

This and that
Flashlights are for men, what are shoes for women: You can never have enough of them and one sex holds each other for for batty.
But that happens to be.

This time I was looking for a fine lamp for everything: for the bike and for everything else. So on the agenda:
Stable, universal, practical and natural light mercilessly.

So I initially bought a T7M the German top dogs Two brothers (see relevant review), with which I was not satisfied but the front and back.
Then followed the UC35, which has similar weaknesses, but the lamp of my choice was: Because the whole package right.

Delivery
- UC35 (yes, really)
- Battery ARB L2P (type 18650, 3.6 V, 3200 mAh)
- Case
- Wrist strap (the thing is with us so, not "lanyard")
- Two spare O-rings, a spare rubber switch
- USB cable (with the usual type-A and Micro-USB connector as for the smartphone)
- Manual (impractical multilingual leaflet)
- Any advertising leaflets, not respected

General and special features
- The UC35 is a battery lamp that can be fired with batteries. As a battery 18650 is used, the now slowly prevails in Germany with us. The thing is not bad: lithium-ion technology, no memory effect, fast charging, combines high voltage and high capacity in itself. A little thicker than a AA battery, a bit longer. But a lot more meat on the ribs.

- The UC35 also digested CR123 batteries; apply with us although still considered exotic, but are now already for 1,50 Eurocken the piece to have. Just not you get these things at every turn or gas station; and if so, not infrequently snorts at prices where you get red in the face and from the nostrils. But you can also use batteries and that can count.

- Practically, the integrated charging electronics of UC35: When the battery is weakening or a little juice replenishment for the small hunger needs in between, you simply plugs in to a charger or a PC via micro-USB, already keep the cash. Micro-USB chargers bob now just about everywhere, with me in almost every room, in the car there's two USB ports, for longer trips you take anyway always an external battery with microUSB Steckerchen with.
In short: You get the UC35 easy charging anywhere without having to look far. And at a pinch you can still cram batteries.
The risk of a road running out of power with the UC35, so you can neglect. And therefore the lamp is a battery lamp that I do not hate, for once.

- The UC35 is waterproof; IPx8 states, so protection against permanent immersion. The manufacturer indicates that up to 30 minutes at 2 m depth were not a problem. Probably the lamp holds out also 24 hours at 3 m water depth - but because Fenix will not feel too far out on a limb.

- The UC35 does not roll away when you let the clip on the lamp. Taking the starting (and to have to bear forces or Chuck Norris to have friend), rolling a bulb, is slowed down by the USB port rubber cover a little more; rest assured I would not.

- The UC35 can ask not to the end cap, because the switch foolishly protrudes a few millimeters above the Endkappenränder. Ok, you can. But then it falls just right around again. :)
I do not understand that you have to switch not simply made a bit shorter. Here Fenix murkst So just like two brothers.

- Apparently, the power control is not achieved by overclocking, as it unfortunately quite often the case otherwise: As you adjust the brightness by rapidly switching on and off; so fast that you can not see with the naked eye. That does not seem to be with the UC35 is the case, what is good: Always clean light - and probably no interference with other electronic devices, such as bike computer.. I try next days of time; if I revoke my guess, everything is fine.

Service
Back on the end cap is the on / off switch. Press on, press again out. Can you still remember just now, right?
Also Morse code or pulse light is possible: The key drop is large enough that you can not always (as in the T7M) accidentally engage the switch.
Another switch (actually a button) sits in front behind the lamp head. So you turned the light modes by (qv). The button is hidden under a Silkonplättchen which incidentally afterglow in the dark for a while green, phosphorescent, as with many watches. In addition, it flashes there is red when the battery has reached about a third of its remaining capacity. When loading the button lights up red when the battery is full, green.
Above the button of the Micro-USB charging port is behind a rubber flap. Press flap, plug it in, end cap switch, load, waiting for the green light (with empty battery takes almost five hours) plug out, flip.
More is not there to serve.

Light modes
There are a total of six light modes: Five brightness levels and wild flickering.
The brightness levels are switched with the front button by: 14, 50, 180, 480 and 960 lumens by the manufacturer I can not measure it.
Also according to the manufacturer holds the lamp with the battery then respectively 150, 38, 9:15, 2:40 and 1:30 hours. So a battery with higher capacity can there still tease out a bit more.
Holding down about half a second the button, the UC35 begins as goofy with full brightness flickering. Is supposed to make defeating the other person; I'm just wondering how. One knows the flickering of the disco. Since it is not incapacitating, although the Disco Blitzer have considerably more juice to the pan. I see the flickering as childish gimmick, see no point in it. Perhaps I am also thinking of something; but I do not think so.
There is no dimming function; with the five stages you but eh well served.

Important: The UC35 remembers the last used settings, so light up when switched on again as bright as before shutdown.
This is today anything but self-evident.

More is not there. And that's a good thing. Only people who, necessarily need to have a watch with Appel angefressenem that looks like a Sigma bicycle computer with bracelet, need flashing or SOS morsende flashlights. But then of course with internet connection, so each time "I just turned on my flashlight UC35 for 89,90 Euro!" will be announced at grimace book. And off course. Real important.

At the highest brightness levels with 960 and 480 lumens, there is a downside: After five minutes, the UC35 switches to protect against overheating to 480 lumens, there after an additional 30 minutes to 180 lumens back. Then you can see the lamp off briefly and then on again, then it's more light. Nevertheless annoying. Why will the whole time-controlled, why you do not measure the temperature and then decides whether to darken or carries on with bright brains? Stupid. After all, the manufacturer is so fair to subject the blackout tactics no blackout tactics: Everywhere, whether on the Internet, in advertising or in the manual, he calls immediately a spade a spade. At least that.

Light!
The UC35 disappointed a little when you first turn: At 960 lumens expected a second sun; at least. Nah, that is not going on. Not even when you think: Ah, battery is not fully determined at delivery, because we invite first ...
When I tried my elderly T7 from Solingen for comparison, the Beast indicated with 200 lumens was focused state smooth but significantly lighter than the 960-lumen light saber made by Fenix. The Ami and primitive language affine German would now WTF!? Roar (What the f?). Me too; only in German.
Looked worse than it actually is. More on this under practical.

The UC35 has a small reflector, because you have to opt for a compromise: A lot of light to the point and immense range, a lot of light at close range and lousy coverage or extremely light on the wide point and tidy light at close range.
For the latter, it was decided at Fenix.
The range goes fanatics once neatly on the galoshes, arises in practice (see right there) but as dead right out.

The UC35 is illuminated white, more neutral white, so neither cold nor hot. Nix for atmospheric and romantic photo lighting, no comparison with warm incandescent light, but white, not blue and not white-pink-purple as the T7M-competitor product from Solingen.
In Order.

The range is okay: Focusable lamps are still one or two further eating, focus their light but to a greater or lesser point around it bleibts dark. The UC35 contrast lights reasonably well and this well everything else from around it. One can see not so far, but much more. To the moon to get not so.

Practice
Ans bike should the UC35, as my elderly T7 is so thick that it destroyed sooner or later each bracket by overstretching. So I last days, as it was really bad cold, brave night swinging on the box. Also present: The Fenix-brother TK15C (450 lumens, not focusable) and the LED Lenser T7 (200 lumens, focusable, so far my favorite).
After a few rounds through the village at night and repeated relamping in between was the new favorite rock solid: The UC35. Point.
During normal cycling to get consistently with the average brightness level of 180 lumens along very well, you do not need more. And that creates the UC35 in hours of continuous operation.
If you upshifts to 480 lumens, one almost like the car a lot of light coming in front of the right light, forward, right light at close range. One sees everything magnificently, what you want to see and needs. At 960 lumens at night the sun rises, the night is almost the day: The UC35 is lit from perfect, the range goes far beyond the practical demands, the entire road is illuminated as bright as day. This one does not need not cycling, certainly. But it's fun. : D
The TK15C contrast, focuses a little too much, but it is still suited for the bicycles, because they still illuminates the edge regions good, but does not reach the UC35.
The T7 was far behind either high beams or short-range illumination. In high beam you can see hardly anything at close range, with low beam, the light is so weak that you see too little. Hard to believe that I have always looked at the T7 as my measure of all things.
The measure of all things now defines the UC35. The lights from far, the lights at the same time of close.
The theme bicycle lamp is approved it.

In Allerweltsanwendungen I'm going to also put off now the UC35 in the bag: slender, pretty small, nice and light, beautiful waterproof. And powerful light. Although with lower grades than the wide radiator focusable competition from Solingen - but with a number of benefits that make up for the whole thing again.

Pros and cons
Pro:
+ Slim and light
+ Waterproof
+ Powerful light in the near and far fields
+ Useful long-distance and short-range illumination
+ Variable power supply, battery or batteries
+ Charging directly into the lamp, UC35 can be abused as a 18650 charger
+ Micro-USB standard connection, in keeping with each current power supply / PC / external battery
+ Good to excellent stamina
+ Sensible gradations
+ White light
+ Separate switches for on / off and brightness levels selection
+ Fits well in many bike racks

Cons:
- Time, not temperature-dependent power reduction (why, Fenix, why?)
- Only battery-almost-the-end-warning, no general remaining capacity indicator
- Roll away (when the clip is from)
- Can not stand up
- Silly flickering

My Fenix Wishlist
Reduces power only when the lamp (or battery) really gets too hot. Displays the remaining battery capacity, for my sake with flash pulses: One wants BEFORE know the departure into the unknown, whether to insert a fresh battery rather not, not only when you have in being had-I-but-by-situation anyway. Forms the housing so that the lamp does not roll without clip into the valley. Power switch shorter, so that you can stand the lamp. Let the Flackerlichtkinderkram just gone. Bring a version of the same dimensions, which creates even briefly 1800 Lumen; one minute would be enough. And do not come with kid stuff like flashing and SOS Morse code around the corner. ;)

Conclusion: Beautiful Universal lamp, small enough to Immermitnehmen, powerful enough for almost any situation except Who-lights-on-the broadest competitions.
With the UC35 you get the feeling to purchase a lamp that plays off its strengths in every situation, even underwater or in the worst rain, a real treat is cycling, which can be anywhere convenient recharging, which also is a pinch but can be equipped with batteries. And which can be adjusted also dark enough that you can read a book, without a burn out his eyes.
