This recorded during a tour of Germany live album Bobby McFerrin founded in 1984 his world fame and demonstrated convincingly form its unique acapella style: Breathing improvisation with noise-like accompaniment, in which the singer completely abruptly tilts highest treble in abysmal rumbling bass, shout , barks, growls, hums and actually incorporates all possible sounds of a singer in the interpretation. And always he sings alone, no delay, no overdubs (as later in his famous album "Simple Pleasures") -. This album is literally breathtaking because of its directness and intimacy The interpretations are limited only by what a person can sing, the need to breathe in between.

And musically McFerrin has much to offer here: His "Blackbird" is also clever and idiosyncratic as his James Brown Cover "I Feel Good" and his version of "Take The A Train" - always he distilled from the musical material of the core out and lifts this by its unique interpretation on the podium. These are also interpretations in the best sense. So one example, his version of the Beatles streets Hauer's "Baby You Can Drive My Car" on the later album "Simple Pleasures" the outstanding Beatles Covers. And McFerrin remains true to its African American roots: Just as he also sings for example in Africa Ladysmith Black Mambazo - with noises singing must always be connected. Subsequent albums of experimental singer could convince me usually less than this early work.

On the negative side is here most the rather short playing time of the album. But who sings so, must also take a break ...
