Unfortunately, the company Fenix has not improved anything in your new revisions (R5).
After I got the first delivery from Amazon, I wanted to compare them directly with my old already about 2 years Q5.
Compared to me, the new R5 occurs brighter, but this could be due to the white light now rather colder that the lamp is now generated.
What is, however, like me noticed was a small dark spot in the light spot. As if here some dirt inside the LED would,
But what surprised me even more was the fact that I could see from the level low (5 lumens) and mid (30 lumens) no difference.
By comparison to my older lamp I could see that the level low just did not work and the lamp turned on when you turn on the 30 lumen mode.
The lamp was complained and was offered a new delivered.
Here the service from Amazon was as always top!
Unfortunately, this lamp has the same problems as the first.
- A small black dot in the light spot
- Low level (5 lumens) is not working.
After lengthy Recherge the net I found a forum in which discussed many users about this issue.
The problem is the new alkaline batteries! Since this may be too far above the 1.5 V of the driver built into the lamp does not turn on the level low.
Even the included batteries are too strong. Leaving the lamp are running about 2 minutes in turbo mode the batteries already so "weakened" that the driver can switch to the first mode.
You have to say that one does not have this problem with batteries.
My old lamp (Rev. Q5) does not have this problem.
Since this error apparently all the lights of the Statutory R5 and the lighting was not optimal, I can forgive currently only 3 stars for lamp. (The revision Q5 I would give 5 stars). The lamp is still a very good and very bright LED lamp that can be operated with commercially available AA batteries. However, I find the wrong-sized driver in the lamp a KO criterion,
Why could notice this behavior in the reviews, no other buyers here I do not know.
