XORO HRT 8300 V2

Xoro HRT 8300 HD DVB-T twin receiver (HDTV, HDMI, 1080p Media Player, USB 2.0, PVR Ready) (Electronics)

Customer Review

I bought on Jan 13, together with a fast USB stick the device. Various older reviews are sometimes not (no longer) correctly, the firmware may have also changed significantly than is obvious: I just got delivered 8300 V2 a unit HRT; its firmware is up to date at the Jan. 13

The price-performance ratio is excellent.

The installation should succeed even non-technical users: plug it in, look for programs. Done.
The unit is comfortably small, glossy black casing, completely ok. On the several occasions as annoyingly complained to bright green / red - nothing has changed light emitting diode, as the orange is too bright and distracting, I think, cover also not aesthetically acceptable solution, this small shortcoming needs and can endure. That the only USB port forward is (although a second internally on the board is!), Does not look nice, but it is practical. Take a glossy black stick, then that fits aesthetically already. The antenna amplifier is working as it should. On the connectivity with HDMI, YUV and digital audio (coaxial), there is nothing to complain about for the price. The frequent criticism of the remote control, I can only share due. Of course, high quality something else, but I see very little difference to the other remote controls in my drawer and it works. The picture is in Scart as Scart is just as, over HDMI at 576p standard, and 1080i quite excellent on my HD-ready (not full HD!) Television and much better than most competitors, which I tried. Although the Xoro upscaled and downscaled TV again is there to say only good things.

At the functionality existed in the past, various criticism, which is probably no longer justified in the current model:

1) photographs of one or two different programs simultaneously function properly. Of course all fortiori a recording and a second program.

2) record a program while watching an old recording works perfectly well. The usability is added still not succeeded: If not on you, so you get with PVR in the menu of recorded programs and start from there playing. Taking just a show on, so PVR is locked and you come with 2xINFO in a list of recorded programs. That the chipset no longer creates is one thing, but that the firmware you have to not have to be so (!) Do, the other can be better. But what the heck, it works and if you know it, so it is not really a problem.

3) recording a program and at the same time shift of another program is working, but is not necessarily recommended; here it comes with me despite very fast USB dropouts. It should be remembered that at the same time two streams are written to the USB and one is read. Whether too much for the chipset is now or is too much for the USB transfer, is academic. Only, you really need that? And: Most competitors can not the.

4) The EPG is unnecessarily small, the display of the Info awkward and tiny that everything goes better, but it works. A bit annoying also that the EPG does not own the programs by inviting, but only if you have visited the program again. But it works, and they reveal the existence simply program a recording.

5) Scheduled recordings can not list itself; one can only "blind" to delete all scheduled recordings. Not pretty, but it works.

6) Especially recommended is the availability of recordings. On the stick are normally read NTFS or FAT directories. Each shot ends up in a folder than .ts file. The quality of the receiver is excellent, except for (3) creates a prima mpg file with full digital audio (such as from the transmitter comes up). The folder names reflect the name of the sender, not the show, which is a bit cryptic, but what the heck. The recorded program is split into multiple files, which would not be (in NTFS), but is not a problem, who cares, who copied with the computer with a single command. I played the recordings of a La Cie Media Player on a Full HD projector and a 6: 1 sound system and am very impressed, better and compatible does not work with a non-HD recording! The stick is recognized immediately in La Cie and plays directly and without a twitch. Since I no longer miss the lack of networking of XORO.

A strong buy recommendation. With a firmware update, which would bring a better EPG and PVR something better management, I would even prefer devices that cost three times the unit.
