Customer Review

Venice at the time of the plague, ten young men temporarily leave the city. Every day they retire ten days each of them tells a story.

Far from the frozen image that can be medieval, the author spreads before us a happy world of powerful feelings, irreverence and pragmatism. We go to meet multiple small characters similar to those of the Gothic painting characters, colorful simple traits. The stories revolve mainly around a single theme, the different ways that manifest love. Jealousy, thwarted love, noble or trivial and that affects the beings of all conditions, no one escapes not even storytellers. One does not feel pass the 800 pages because the author is renewed in each of a hundred stories. Another interesting aspect, certain texts discovered in the inspiration of later writers whose frame of "All's Well That Ends Well" by Shakespeare. Some critics even so, some aspects of the society of the time, as violent and profoundly unequal, may offend the reader, and the reader, the 21st century. The "good words", the theme of the sixth day are not necessarily funny, or even comprehensible today. Moreover, if the stories change every night repeated the same ritual, almost, to the storytellers, which tired a little in the long run. When one takes stock, the very positive wins because of the pleasure we take chewable each story whose verve and finesse have not aged, a real treat.
