Small Games Historical Note: Hideo Kojima`s Solid Snake's creative word, and to a large extent also characteristic of Snake Plisskin (Kurt Russell) from the cult movie inspired "Escape From New York" from 1981. Indications are available in Part 2 where Solid Snake carries the code name "Iroquois Plisken".
1.1 To the Game
Possession Although all parts (except the handheld versions), look at the PS3 HD versions over the PS2 original, much more detail and sharper. The cutscenes have a bit more tweaking (eg animation of hair) but well done. Unfortunately, the installation of games (especially of Metal Gear Solid 1 and Special Missions) is very complicated, since they are only available as a download and a frequent disc change (game includes 2 discs) necessitate. But that in turn has the advantage to spare the German version to be equal to downloading the English version (for the more than cruel synchronization).
How has already read, where Internet access is for the completeness of all games required also all the parts are provided (except Part 1) with English language edition and German subtitles. Trophies will be provided for all games (except for the MSX and PS1 versions).
I go by most readers of this review from which they can start with the name of MGS something and therefore'll neither the story course, express more to the decisive game elements, except that the HD version has been expanded to include some games and movies. Although the technique is still not perfect, but have at least improved. Let's hope the successor to Part 4, forget the short adventure "Ground Zeroes" which can be seen actually only as a prologue or practice to "Phantom Pain" (Part 5), so that Hideo Kojima can rely on forever in the games developers sky a monument !
If you want to play the games in the correct temporal order: 1.) MGS 3 - 2) MGS Peace Walker - 3) MGS 1 - 4) MGS 2 - 5) MGS 4. Whoever the spinoff "Metal Gear Rising "can call his own, as a last resort. For those who do not know the game, "Metal Gear Rising" is a thoroughbred Slasher, and has nothing to do with the normal game mechanics of the other parts. But mention it the sake of completeness, there are some allusions to part 2 and 4, and also the part belongs to a complete collection. The two-dimensional, originating from the 8-bit era MSX-parts play before MGS 1 and show the confrontation between Solid Snake vs. Big Boss. Who has the normal Classic HD Collection of three MGS parts (2.3 and "Peace Walker"), should consider whether the purchase of this version makes sense if he even should have Part 4. While it contains the PSP part "Peace Walker", but gives a completely different feel than the other parts (just a handheld conversion) was getting used to for me, but after a break-in period triggered a high addiction factor, and the next part " Phantom Pain "most likely resembles the gameplay, because it there is to be a Mother base with lots of new features that enrich the gameplay scary. However, the collection also includes flat part 4 and the first Metal Gear Solid unschlagbarten part, who founded the stealth genre and for me still the best part of the series is (even if only as a download). The soundscape (music and effects), graphics, as well as the gameplay of the first part were revolutionary at the time, and gives me still goosebumps. The mere encounter with Psycho Mantis, is probably every older gamer, forever unforgettable memories.
Why just Part 1 graphically, as well as playing technically the PS3 has been adjusted is an open question which must be asked. That there is another way, Konami showed indeed the MGS1- / Twin Snakes Nintendo conversion. Perhaps the effort would have been too high, but it also went to license rights as I could read in a game magazine, are at Nintendo. Nevertheless, a great bonus, as well as the Special Missions are available and I therefore can save my original PS1 games.
Sauer me is pushed open and the art book, which should include the Graphic Novels artwork. It does not deserve its name. The cover looks and feels cheap, and even worse for me, the illustrations (except 2 to 3 graphics) are only cover- or advertising images. As I would have expected more, have such as high-quality art book versions of "Dark Souls" or "Bioshock Infinity" shown there. There are outwardly indeed worse examples, such as the artbook of "Tales of Series", these have but at least in substance made the subject of "art book". For this, however, digital comics are to MGS1 and 2 are available which, however, want to be first of all found. CD 2 insert, go in the XMB menu on video, and below the icon from PlayStation Video Store will be found the "METAL GEAR SOLID DIGITAL GRAPHIC NOVEL". A ruling on the Zusammmenspiel between PS3 and PS Vita or PSP, I can not comment because I do not have handhelds. Therefore, refer to the review of "El Lobo" who positively evaluated the whole.
All in all you can with this offer, at the price and the value of time (80-120 hours stealth action), long cinematic cutscenes (the partly escalating conversations were not circumcised "you can find good or not") bravely access. Perfection but there is still room for improvement. Despite well-intentioned 5 instead of 4 stars (subjective fan and nostalgia factor). Had for each of yet no contact for this game, or the stealth game genre, this is must-Completition (unbeatable price-performance factor) that belongs in every well-stocked collection of games!
1.2 Notes
A trifle too MGS4. I was able to bring the game to run only with the original PS3 controller. In other controllers (in particular the multi-platform), there could be compatibility issues.
Anyone interested in an exceptional XMB background on the topic, should be a USB flash drive format FAT32 with the "PS3", sub-menu "Theme" menu prepare and googled the page "ps3-themes.com" and call "MGS4_Menu" and download (Important: On the tab "Theme"). Download Then simply design settings from the stick, install and use press!
