lyrically it all is again great, but the music inspires me "Elysium" as a collective work not. Most of the titles I find mediocre ("Winner"), boring ("breathing space") or even annoying ("ego music"). the objection: "give the album time when you can hear is pure" I can not accept as true, because what the songs of Pet Shop Boys always amazed me, is just that they hear me the first inspire almost always directly and still have a long shelf life. but "invisible" or "Everything Means Something" are indeed arranged clean but not somehow counterintuitive, unrefined, not as awesome as I am used to it by Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe. I like quite a lot of their quiet nummern- "do i have to?", "home and dry", "vampire" or the grandiose "Dreaming of the Queen". but these songs touch me and have something unusual, what is missing most songs of the new CD.
but fortunately there are three highlights that make me something reconcile with "Elysium": "Leaving" is a great number, the catchiness, melancholy and an excellent text together. I know the guys! and "Requiem in denim and leopardskin" (what a great song title!). I like the Excellent-rhythm, the great instrumental point to end of the track, the choir-use, the catchy chorus ... Class and my absolute highlight is the superb "a face like that"! danceable rhythm, this horny brass-sample, the sirens sound before the chorus and then a chorus that goes into the ear immediately. fantastic-for me the best PSB song for many years.
Conclusion: somehow ambivalent. "Elysium" is not an album that I'll frequently hear how "Actually" or "nightlife". it's more like "release" - three, maybe four songs ("give it a go" has the potential to grower) I'll pick and choose and listen. So this is of course a bit of whining at a high level, but there are holding the Pet Shop Boys- because I have very high expectations that are mostly met. in "Elysium" Unfortunately this is not so ...
I listen to now a few times in a row "a face like that", and am delighted with this fantastic song. and just because of this title has it wait from "Elysium" then been worthwhile.
