Having previously tried already a digital Grundig, then a digital Panasonic, and finally a digital Sony portable radio (and all have returned), I decided for the Sony ICF 904 L old school in analog technology. Sure, a digital receiver has many advantages: Because of the many station presets could be mentioned, the exact frequency display or even the RDS (Radio Data System) - function that can detect even the broadcast station and the set program type on the display.
But at my reception location (Hennef / Sieg) were all three digital devices unable, my favorite stations, Germany radio culture, to receive a satisfactory quality on FM; This created only (and loose) the analog ICF 904 L. Since I renounce he prefers to some comfort and content myself with the three preset buttons that has this device. On the other hand, the sound is quite passable, and the device can turn up quite loud without rattling. While the setting of each station memory with the Rändelrädchen requires a bit of flair; But if they are set once, then keep the stations even after several weeks well their position and do not have to be readjusted. Another minor complaint, but no star deduction justifying the fact that the red dial pointer can be seen not very good on the main scale: The color yellow would certainly allows for better readability. Nevertheless, this device is recommended in the price range up to 100 Euro and very especially if you live in an area with difficult reception conditions for the FM band.
