But this fantastic double album includes much more. Hardly a Boss album is more versatile than The River. There are the mainstream rockers like The Ties That Bind, Crush On You ("A real master piece" Quote BS), Out in the Street, Two Hearts, Jackson Cage, Cadillac Ranch, the later with Darlington County on Born in the USA a kind of continuation received. There are quiet ballads like the wonderful title track with this madness harmonica, the sad-beautiful Independance Day in which the tense relationship is addressed to his dad, or a native of the sessions for Darkness album Over-jerker Drive All Night with for so many fans to get used to, super romantic for me line "I Drive all night, just to buy you some shoes." Also included are real party hits like Ramrod or Sherry Darling (the latter also from the Darkness sessions) to Bruce years not live or played mid-tempo songs like the gorgeous The Price You Pay, a song (for whatever reason). Lyrically there are sophisticated songs like the title track, Point Blank, the wonderfully morbid, melancholy Stolen Car (that would also fit well to the acoustic work Nebraska) or the country Teske Wreck on the Highway.
For songs like Crush On You, You can look or I'm Rocker it is due to the banal lyrics also scolded before, also for ballads such as I Wanna Marry You and Fade Away (at that time the way to Hungry Heart the second single). But must it always every Textk, every song have a message?
