As a former user of a Sigma DP2 and DP1x you appreciate these "little bitch" (faster, higher-resolution display and the incredible detailed resolution) ... because it rewarded with a breathtaking images in a high resolution form.
Who (in low light) photographed exclusively in the darkness, for the Sigma (all DP models) nothing - just do not put much emphasis on speed and technical gimmicks for photographers (such as those the excellent Sony RX 100 offers - which I also own). The Merrill's offer just ... a fantastic / truly stunning picture quality. No more and no less.
This camera requires patience - often a lot of patience. But they rewarded them with incredibly good and detailed photos - Foveon sensor and perfectly matched lens thanks be !!!
Personally, I think the DP3 Merrill for the best Merrill (of course subjective and depending on "focal length Gusto"). Since I also own the DP1 Merrill, I feel focal length moderately well positioned and let me love of users many times more expensive "high-end DSLR - users" ridicule which naturally have more leeway, more speed, more lowlight capabilities. Just drag these gentlemen around a significant increase in weight and have spent many times one or two Merrill to in good light !! somewhat to achieve the same results.
I love -after such forward my great Pentax K-5, but if it (in good light !!) really matters - the subject is not / hardly moves - to get a perfect photo, then 'ne Merrill in use.
Perfect Applications:
- Good light with ISO 100 and 200
- Stationary subjects
- Macro's (Marumi-Achromat is on the way, but without very very convincing)
- Portrait Photography
Last but not least:
Those who are not ready for (relatively) narrow money to get necessarily spare batteries (the batteries last unfortunately actually only about 100 photos - 2 batteries are available with the camera) to bring up brilliant photos, I advise the purchase from
My Conclusion:
Such 'brilliant image quality (only really) good lighting conditions and ISO 100, 200 (and of course in RAW format) for "Entschleuniger" - who like to take time to's motive - there is not for this price - not in a compact format - no, not from a Fujifilm X100s, Ricoh GR or Nikon APS-C - sensor. There are just Bayer sensors that safely have their advantages (especially in low light conditions). In good light dominates in this price range clearly the Foveon sensor.
