Silent Hill 0rigins (video game)

Customer Review

PS2 owners had reason to celebrate when Konami announced her as formerly PSP-exclusive title marketed 'Silent Hill: Origins' on Sony's home console to want to port. Unfortunately, the developers commissioned by Konami at their ports, if not exactly covered by 'Silent Hill' or 'Metal Gear Solid', with fame. This time, however, the developers of handheld Originals took porting directly - a ray of hope?

'Silent Hill: Origins' tells of the Trucker Travis O'Grady and his dark past. By chance it verschlägt him to Silent Hill, where he saves a little girl from a burning house - which turns out to be a fatal error.

'Silent Hill: Origins' is to be understood as a prequel to the first 'Silent Hill' for the PlayStation. According to the game benefits from its nostalgia factor: it versed the mist-shrouded streets of the formerly idyllic small town of Silent Hill, meet familiar faces and monsters from the other 'Silent Hill' parts and fights his way through familiar locations (such as the hospital). Unlike the other parts of the 'Silent Hill' saga it is in' Origins', however possible, at any time between the real and the 'switch alternative' dark world by using mirrors as portals - a feature that the game was excellent and implemented, is used quite a bit thanks to numerous mystery for whose solution is alternately both spheres must visit.

It is good that the developers no example of Konami's last Escapade, 'Silent Hill 4: The Room' at Climax have taken. 'Origins' is, in the truest sense of the word, 'back to the roots': classic Silent Hill gameplay in third-person view, as its fans know and love, paired with puzzles deposits and a slightly modified battle system. One was in fact taken from 'Silent Hill 4': shock weapons can be destroyed in battle. However, this is not a problem because you will find in the game as many items can be added to allow or even thrown, it is in principle not defenseless. Of course there are again some firearms that should be saved up, however due to a certain ammunition shortages for bosses.

What unfortunately falls in the PS2 port of 'Origins' extremely negative aspect is the fact that PS2 owners nothing new is offered. The game was 1: 1 porting of the PlayStation Portable. On the handheld, the playing time was still quite OK - after all, the gameplay for 'on the go' designed - but now it is too short compared with the rest of the series, easily. It has also been consistently failed to remedy the deficiencies of the original. The camera is as hectic as ever, the control continues to be imprecise. However Climax copied more of the PSP ...

Even the technology was transferred 1: 1 from Sony's wunderkind: graphical improvements are sought in vain. Although the image has been well adapted to the higher resolution of a television set, so there is no too rough jagged edges, but the picture looks pretty blurry, but especially on larger devices. On the PSP, it looked much better. The soundtrack is as good on the PS2, as he was already at the 'little brother': quiet, rhythmic and eerie samples, mostly instrumental, often backed by vocals, reinforce the horror atmosphere of 'Origins' enormous.

There is no doubt: 'Silent Hill: Origins' is still a great game. The quality of the original PSP has indeed suffered during transmission to the home console a little, all in all, 'Origins', certainly worth due to its great atmosphere, its magnificent soundtrack and its entertaining story his money. For 'Silent Hill' fans anyway a must buy, otherwise the title especially horror and mystery friends had recommended. However, if you already own the game for the PSP, the money should rather invest in something else, because the PSP version is the better choice anyway. Four stars for the subsequent start of the best horror sagas that exist.
