Below very briefly the pros and cons from my own personal experience and perspective on things (incl. Commentary in brackets).
PROS:
- Ergonomic, handy and very well-made magnesium alloy case (the Cam is to me perfectly in the hand, better than the competition by Olympus or Panasonic or NEX-3/5)
- Operating concept with 3 choices wheels + additional different soft keys (so that are the most important parameters of the camera settings directly accessible)
- Built-in electronic viewfinder with high resolution (one of the best electron viewfinder with all Inherent advantages and disadvantages ....)
- Built-in flash (better than all - used in system cameras usually Aufstecklösungen)
- Adaptability of nearly all lens systems (my "M42 Baby" from the analog days, experiencing a second spring)
- Fokuspeaking in manual focus (highlighting the contrast edges in the selected focus area is a great aid in manual focus)
- Built-in panorama function (high-resolution panoramas that saves are created directly in the camera a lot of time in post-production)
- 24 megapixel sensor in APS-C format, which can also handle high subject contrast very well (in the camera size and weight unique - but also disadvantages below)
- Swiveling display for photos from the frog perspective and overhead (makes a more stable impression than the side battered folding screen - I use very much and often)
CONS:
- The sensor "like" no flat incident light beams (at wide angle image quality in the corners and in many (foreign) optics suffers there are problems with magenta image edges)
- The high pixel density requires excellent lenses if you want to exploit the 24MP also completely (here is the offer from Sony to date very manageable -. Only the 50mm fixed focal length SEL 50F18OSS met diesbzgl expectations)
in addition, however, it should be noted that very well provide the SEL 24F18Z Zeiss 30mm f2.8 and the Sigma EXDN good quality and you certainly do not need to each image every 24 MP
- The competition has become a faster autofocus-especially in low-light conditions (hybrid AF is there only in the NEX-5R, let's see what that brings not -and slowly is the NEX-7 in good light)
- Menu navigation is the claim of the camera does not do justice (no "My Menu", illogical names, colorful icons, ...-, any DSLR better, but I need thankfully rarely)
- No ISO-thirds steps adjustable (possible with any mid-range DSLR and can also competition -here was from other NEX cameras the software part in question simply copied)
- The last two defects could be remedied by a firmware update (but probably never come from Sony ... -Experience with other Sony cams)
Enclosed still room for improvement for the firmware:
- Storable user settings (C1, C2, ...) -has virtually any other system ...
- Limitation of the limits in the Auto ISO
- Lockable Video button against accidental actuation
Expanding exposure range of AE Bracketing -
- Freer choice in the assignment of the rotary wheel and function keys
- Switching EVF / LCD should be assignable to a key
...
Conclusion:
No camera system is perfect and none of my digital cameras (Fuji F10, EOS 30D, 5D, 500D, Nikon D7000, Lumix LX5) has not had so much fun.
The above-mentioned advantages outweigh the disadvantages for me personally by far.
The integrated imaging performance and features are unique in this size and weight.
The disadvantages are sometimes annoying - especially if they were easily suppressible - however dim the joy with me unsustainable.
