Big promises and a lot of potential ...

I have long quarreled with the decision of whether and why should I buy a tablet.
That one thus only very limited, if at all, can work (can be a smartphone these days make almost the same: presentations, documents, emails, appointments ...) that there just is not a full replacement for the laptop and that in itself apron really have to ask: for what task and field of application, it should be because - was supposed to be well known. Especially in terms of safety, just one should be clear that many apps like hoard data, data is transferred at any unerkannterweise company and that banking and Co. ought to be taboo. In this regard, the personal pain limits are indeed very different, and who anyway a tense mind regarding. Privacy has or who wants to replace a full-fledged PC, can safely release here again and will have no joy with Android.

So if you have realized that a tablet is a nice and exclusive gimmick or toy that lets you well and like to start the online daily excursions, play multimedia content, even stream and down and can play (and basically a large flat anywhere and on " screen ": bed, sofa, train, car - passenger !, balcony, parking ...), then you are faced with the next question: Which Tablet?

Since the technical Eigent machinations, at least in the middle price segment, are virtually identical (Tegra 2, 1GB RAM, 8-32GB memory, 1280x800 resolution ...), make the form, the connection options that Speichererweiterbarkeit, the product-specific Feathers, not least the price, etc. the difference and decide finally on a purchase. And even here still raises the question: what, exactly? The 7-inch tablets are of course perfectly in terms of mobility, an Asus Slider can partially replace a netbook and a Transformer Prime also tries for example in the university (and make it much. Too ?!) even to be equivalent.

So why the Sony Tablet S (in my case the 16GB WiFi only version -. At a pinch I go mobile on my phone into the net, moreover, because LTE is in the starting blocks, and then at me vmtl way or rather the smartphone is renewed , and not the tablet):

+ An update (at least announced, and as it currently looks after no successor, it will presumably. Attending) on ​​the Android OS 4.0.
+ I find the form class. By a thicker side it feels a bit like a magazine to which you have handled. And by the way 3 sensors (Right, Left and the narrow side down), you can hold the tablet wonderful in both hands, or set up cross with an appropriate cover.

+ ... And the overall response of the tablets is contemporary and afloat. I have experienced so far no stuttering, dropouts or hanger. Sure, apps can falter before, but less on the tablet, as much more likely to be on the compatibility (eg Doplhine HD browser off and getting stuck ...). Games, programs, etc. Quick and are smooth. Sometimes almost too fast: just write when I do not even notice it, but my palm touched easy the display and you will open the menu or letters are pressed twice - very sensitive, almost too sensitive)
+ Sound output (via headphones): I call my own Klipschkopfhörer and can say - because Sony has cribbed a lot from the house, very good MP3 players and / or.. taken! The sound reproduction is excellent (and is, of course, falls a bit with the appropriate player, I use Power AMP), although the sound is reproduced always homogeneous, powerful and clear.
+ Sound output (via tablet speaker): here Sony has been trying to create through the respective left and right arrangement of the speaker outputs, an even better stereo imaging. Basically, this is not wrong, but as so often only become apparent weaknesses in the practical application. If I have the Tablet are therefore on the bedside table / lie, then "fired" a box always the wall, the other space - which is quite lost. This means that the sound always gives the impression to come more from one side. Is not the world, but noticeably. And also the overall volume of the internal speakers is OK - although it wiggle not the walls, but it does make quite good noise.
+ IR Remote funtktioniert flawlessly with my devices (TV, sockets, AVR ...). Only the layout on the tablet, I find quite ugly and unkind. Much. comes since again an update or new issues ?!
+ The weight: you realize just that has been dispensed with "quality" materials such as Gorilla glass etc.. The tablet fits comfortably in your hand and can also be times longer kept simple so.
+ Connections: with the MW-600 Bluetooth headphones from Sony Ericsson is working to connect quickly and smoothly. And the Wi-Fi reception is good and stable. Only GPS I could not test, but will update the appropriate time.

o Absolutely everything is made of plastic. Well, you get paid on average also 20% less than similar tablets - you get exactly what you pay for.
o the automatic brightness sensor I find too dark. No matter when and under what circumstances, the image is always dunke ?! Luckily, you can then manually readjusted.
o I do not find the Sony Launcher so the hit, the icons are indeed like PS, but I have downloaded the GO Launcher and individual topics.
o the SD card slot is truly no everyday object. You need a healthy dose of intuition and precision engineering to "friemeln" the map in or out of the slot too. VMTL. but by design.
o the cameras: one should and should not expect too much of them (eg no flash)! But honestly, I do eh more snapshots with the mobile phone, or even good with the camera ... and for Skype etc. should suffice.
o no HDMI output. For this you can stream what works quite well (also on Sony TVs do not - with additional software).
o Battery life: After extensive research and reading tests and reviews I've come to terms with the fact that the Tablet about 4-5 hours battery has (intensive use) - and this is true.. A pity of course that you can not just change the battery. I'd rather have the money for an extra battery and a mini USB charging port but spent the tablet than as just jetz ... see "Contra"

(Contra)
- Sony is pursuing a very radical product policy, along the lines of: You want Sony, then you buy exclusively Sony! And precisely on this principle, of course, turns out even the charger. Instead of relying on a universal mini USB variant, one is forced the charger always take to acquire or to resort to cheap products from the Far East an expensive additional unit.
- ... And also in the Speichererweiterbarkeit plays Sony once again "the strong man". That is in plain language, can be the tablet although with an ordinary SD card to expand, this is not recognized as an active memory. You have / would have only all data copied to the tablet in order to access them directly. Personally I find that very unfortunate, the already very limited, free memory is internally about 12-13 GB. That's up fast! While there is the Market x any apps that access to the SD card without problems, still remains the AHA experience of Sony's own Media Library (which is so beautiful looks on the product photos) unfortunately partly on the track.
- The advertised Play Station Store is currently still quite unreliable (2 days ago he was sometimes not available), still pretty empty and what annoys me most: I have purchased the Game Medievil already in normal Play Station Store for PS3, which will not work on the tablet.
- Sony advertises a PS certification, Bluetooth has on board and you need supposedly still an extra, and presumably. not exactly cheap cable to connect the controller to the PS3 with the Tablet.
- Sony is building a specially IR remote control in the tablet in order to suggest multimedia universality, but manages (despite Bluetooth) not to allow the PS3 to control?
- Support: I have Sony in this regard sent a request, if and when these areas are edited and enhanced - to date (3 days ago) I have not heard yet.

I opted for Sony, because I (as is often the decisive point for a purchase) have collected throughout positive experience with Sony (Play Station, MP3 player, etc.), wg. the desire to have a different kind of tablet, wg. the form, the price and wg. PS Bonus (the date but it is still not really a bonus!). Once Sony actually makes available the full potential of the tablets, I am willing - deservedly provided - to screw the number of stars up. Currently Sony has promised a lot and still not convinced! That there is otherwise a very good tablet (min. 4 stars, P / L taking into account even 5 *), and the competition in almost no way inferior, was supposed to be a matter of course;)

Since I use, read, occasional playing solely for surfing and multimedia playback, the Tablet, I have my old laptop gladly exchanged it - of course, only with the ulterior motive that I still have a desktop PC, for writing etc. For my purposes and for the price (with a lot of potential for - Sony, you puts the stuff!) I would recommend this Tablet in good conscience without restrictions.
