I had never read Barbara Constantine but this short novel makes me appetite. Tom is an endearing little boy who pilfering vegetables in vegetable neighbors. Joss His mother, woman and child handicapped by her huge breasts, dream that the men finally look in the eyes. The author offers us an endearing cast of characters, a couple of Anglo-French retirees, Joss ottoman girlfriend, the lonely old grandmother who lives with his cat and his dog, and the young father who does not know, but that attaches to the small still Tom.
Comical situations, relationships that are forged around a boy hustler. Fast and fresh style, short sentences that speak volumes and a well balanced humor and finesse.
