- Processing: The HDEP10 looks great at first glance (all high-gloss, elegant design, some hidden controls), but is at least of the accessible parts forth quite a plastic scrap. The controls cover the remote control and the disc tray do not just feel as if they were made for the permanent use. The interfaces on the rear panel are okay, but is also the least in this price range. All in all, the device gives rather the impression of a player 50.- from the discounters.
- Operation: the entire menu is very clear and kept largely self-explanatory. For normal operation, a big plus, even though the remote is a little confusing.
What I miss, however, are a bit advanced access options (such as picture and sound settings or direct file access in "unreadable" DVDs and CDs). This is probably so intended, since the operating instructions not even the opportunity for the firmware update on CD instead of LAN is mentioned. Since I had only about www and make the very competent Toshiba customer service clever.
- Image Quality: The HD-DVD mode outstanding! Between an extrapolated to 1080P DVD and the new format really are worlds apart! One can formally the blemishes on the faces of the stars seen ;-).
In DVD mode, however, the device does not come close to my Yamaha player. The upscaling acts "unreal" and the color reproduction is considerably less brilliant (my subjective impression)
- Sound Quality: Can not stand compared to my S1700 also. Despite having the same interface of the Toshiba Sound affects considerably thinner and quieter, so I have to turn up the Vertärker much further to achieve the same volume.
- Formats: What did the same a little annoyed me is that the HDEP10 does not play HD DVDs that are based on WMV-HD. Is probably a license legal problem, because the players are fit for almost all disappeared from the market.
The essentials of HDEP10 plays well off, but already at Eigenbrand or other countries encodings he strike. With Yamaha can bypass the at least slightly. 08/15-purchasing DVDs and MPEG HD DVDs work perfectly.
- Volume: The fan noise is indeed perceptible, but not annoying; negligible compared with my beamer
- Speed: takes a while to boot up. DVDs are loaded quickly, HD DVDs take a while. However, the navigation through the menus of the latter is very fast.
- Price Performance:. At a bargain price incl Free films can not be faulted. The regular price I would not buy it if the blemishes.
- Rating: I give 3 stars because the part of the whole works properly and the HD picture quality is truly groundbreaking. The remaining stars will fall of the workmanship and the missing features for victims ....
