Malevil (Paperback)

Customer Review

In the pantheon of notable books of my life bulimic reader, this novel by Robert Merle just returned prominently, already next to his Death is my trade.
More than just a "Robinson Crusoe" as it is sometimes called, seems to me to Malevil more precisely the initiatory novel, literary genre that provides the key to human nature against its contingencies and produces real lessons of life.
I will not dwell on the "pitch" of the novel, already abundantly exposed in previous reviews. Suffice it to say that this novel masterfully illustrates the dilemmas that led the state of necessity with respect to morality, the state of vital threat to the values we associate with humanity. From this angle, Malevil finally addresses the same topic as Death is my trade despite the apparent lack of relationship between the two works.
It does not come out unscathed from reading the novels of Robert Merle, major writer for both the acuity of his inspiration for the high quality of his pen.
