Depeche Mode are back. 4 years after fairly successful "Playing The Angel" announces itself with the band "Sounds Of The Universe" back. Unfortunately, they do but did not manage to convince me once again. Although the album has not become the total flop, how do you get to read here and there, but not too far from it.

Actually, the disk begins even (apart from the much too long ugly noise before the first song) very good. The slow matching in the album very nice "In Chains" followed by the hot single candidate "Hole To Feed" are two of the better songs. Even "Wrong" I find now quite well, even though I am still of the opinion that he too monotonous and melody comes free, but he somehow works. "Fragile Tension" was then the first song I heard before released. At the time I found him terribly and but must confess it to me now to have almost beautiful part. Dave's vocals I feel here though still getting used to the guitar and I could do without, but overall the item is ok. But after SOTU begins to weaken, "Little Soul" could be smooth on "Exciter" at home. I have not always something to slower songs, but this one is terrible and desolate Martins howling in the background is unbearable for me clearly a so-called Skip-song. "In Sympathy" I can not really classify, that song is not directly bad, but somehow quite inconsequential and not remain rather hang. "Peace" on the other hand it does and that in a negative sense as the most hideous Depeche Mode song ever. Terrible what the guys have done wrong here. The music horrible, singing disgusting that a thousand times repeated refrain annoying without end ... this title really is not at all and unfortunately it is not the last bad outliers. With "Come Back" followed skip Song number 3. It's inexcusable, as this great song has been driven to the wall. When the album a few weeks ago appeared on the Internet was at this point a strong trial version ajar beautiful version of this piece. For me it was one of the highlights of the plate, but unfortunately on the final album, only the vocals left of it and is covered with a disgusting thick mushy, the downright painful to the ears. Underground! The following instrumental "Spacewalker" is perhaps the underpainting any commercials at the grocery store, but otherwise it is superfluous as a goiter. And finally followed by a round beautiful song. "Perfect" is, as the name suggests it, perfect. For me the most beautiful song on the album. You can use it so still! "Miles Away", however, is another one of those titles without any recognizable melody. Distorted guitars and all kinds of noises build again an exhausting sound wall that literally kills one and Dave tried to be Elvis, but that's just as comfortable. In "Jezebel" is to the ears then rest. Although I am not a fan of this quiet Gore songs, but this one is really okay. From 2 minutes supposes you to hear Kraftwerk sound, which even has what. And now I have arrived at the end and only needs to "Corrupt" endure. This could even be a successful conclusion Track if Dave would not sing again pulled so terribly long and ugly guitar would not ...

I can truly see no milestone in music history here. SOTU Although clearly a better album than "Exciter" but with him on the two rear seats of my personal DM Album list. This is a shame, because I was quite happy with the predecessor, hoping for a continuation of the path. Possibly will grow a few of the songs in the course of time, but by far really many runs I can give the album 2.5 out of 5.
