Frankly my impression was after the first hearing, however, anything but happy ... Perhaps it was the fact that I have heard the music rather casually or perhaps because I was hoping for a great main theme. But as so often, have convinced me more auditory passages of what for an exciting work we have here. Although Howard has written a strikingly large main theme, so there are several small motifs that turn times bombastic and sometimes subtle. And it works, "The Last Airbender" is something different and is based more on atmosphere and density of sound, while playing with returning motifs, unfolds its wonderful music world but even without that you can whistle along a melody after listening.
For fans of James Newton Howard, like me, first a little strange, because just he is known for stunning themes and their perfect preparation. But, as John Williams proves Howard that he can carry a score with little Leitmelodien. And "The Last Airbender" is definitely a good example of such a soundtrack.
But as I said, the music unfolds even as their strength and tearing the listener into another world. "The Last Airbender" sounds fresh, dynamic and reminds partly on classic adventure cores from the Golden Age.
Already in the same "Airbender Suite" we get a great mix of everything, it has to offer this soundtrack. Times somber, sometimes beautiful and tight and then again very opulent with lots of drum pads and bombastic brass moments. And Howard's typical musical climax again and although the last track, "Flow Like Water", a delightfully driving track in the sound you can fall in love easily, for many wahrschienlich the best tracks on the CD.
The highlights of the scores are difficult to identify, since "The Last Airbender" is a soundtrack that you have to enjoy the piece. Nevertheless, I recommend very clearly the first and last track, the epic "The Blue Spirirt" or "Earth Bender" in which shines the heroic main motive and time and again creating spine-tingling moments.
Conclusion 65 minutes full of wondrous sounds. "The Last Airbender" is not a simple soundtrack that can be heard in passing, but a demanding and thrilling music that you should try not only as a Howard fan. So forget the movie and buys you this beautiful and fascinating soundtrack by talent, James Newton Howard!
