On "Dos" Green Day put the trend away from ironed Polit-Pop-Punk à la "American Idiot" to the harsh, rough Garage Rock continued. So they set off on fields that they have so far entered only with their side project, the "Foxboro Hot Tubs". Many (especially newer fans who only know the last two albums) confuses - but as Green Day are just! They have already announced release of "Uno" to once again want to make something that is more fun. And that they have succeeded with "Dos"! And why should a band that has actually been achieved everything there is to achieve, not just once a must experiment a bit and let off some steam? I any case like this new Green Day sound, because you can feel that this group does not stop on the spot, but progressing create something new. A third rock opera like "21st Century Breakdown" would have been safe in the pants, this level you can not hold in the long run.
"Dos" to the listener must only open up with each listen it gets better. For me, the melodies were initially unfamiliar, especially in "Nightlife" - but after repeated listening to me this is even one of the best songs. The lyrics have depth and are not as superficial as you might think after the first hearing. My advice: get involved in the music and stop frantically "American Idiot" to want to compare with the new albums. These are two different worlds, if not universes. I for one am excited to see how "Tré" will close the arc. Until then runs "Dos" in the time loop.
