... A statement of Duane Allman in an interview ("Every time I'm in Georgia, I eat a peach for peace") to be called the album; the title was shortened to simply "Eat A Peach". Also only had planned a single album, but the band - drummer Butch Trucks so - wanted to release as much music as possible with Duane Allman. The band had recorded in the Criteria Studios in Miami six titles, including three with Duane Allman.
It was decided to resort to the Fillmore East and tapes to complete the rest of the album with some shorter titles. The choice fell on "One Way Out" and "Trouble No More". When viewing the tapes then had the idea mitzuveröffentlichen the showpiece of the band "Mountain Jam" as the second LP. Problem was, so as trucks, that it was the only version that was good enough to be published. But it was overall one of the worst versions that ever played the tape. Because the game of Duane Allman be published after all.
The double album came in February 1972 in the stores and was already in early March at No. 4 on the Billboard charts ("At Fillmore East" had made it to number 13). This double album has always been for me one of the albums that I still hear since the release and who have never worn. The studio tracks are all talking very very good and the live tracks need not be, because all are considered classics of the top ten best live albums. But the 34-minute "Mountain Jam", in which everyone in the band has a lot of time for solo improvisations, is a delight!
What has been missing for decades, was then the complete release of the concert on 06.27.1971, the last Fillmore East show. 2006 was it finally happened and what can you say, except that the concert is very good and the band as "House Band" by Bill Graham and Closing Act was that night in top shape (a pity, however, that the friendly Introduction was not mitveröffentlicht of Bill Graham, as well as the short but interesting radio commentary of the transferring NYC-Channels).
The set list of course involves nothing new, but it was clear, only just over 3 months after the March 1971 shows the band there. But as always, the band plays the title, although in its basic form quite the same, but the improvisations are always different, both from the magnificent interplay of the band and also the length of the title. You can hear new heights again. And the interplay of guitarists Duane Allman and Dickey Betts with the B-3 organ of Gregg Allman and the backing tracks of Rythm 'Section was hard to beat. In particular, Duane Allman played then and from another planet.
It was certainly a memorable concert in this very last night at the Fillmore East and one of, if not the culmination point of this night. 5 ***** are clearly not enough for this album; and which alone deserves the beautiful album cover!
Those who want to hear more of the band from the Fillmore East, there is a CD release of 3 concerts of 11 /. 13 and February 14, 1970, where the band with the "Grateful Dead" and "Love" were playing the Fillmore East 2/70 (UK Import) (recorded by DG-recordist Osley Stanley "Bear"). Or, of course, the classic At Fillmore East (Deluxe Edition) The Fillmore Concerts. But supporters of the band have anyway.
