The Turn (Audio CD)

Customer Review

I live fan since "Throwing Copper". What I always used to like about their music was raw, fresh, unadulterated. It was music that had no ego, but worked as a common work. Gracey drums was just as clear to hear how Pats bass and fantastic Taylor solos. But starting with "V" came about "Birds of Pray" to "Black Montains" one disappointment after another. The music was arbitrary, the lyrics sometimes just stupid, and only Ed's voice slid easily recognizable on the sound bed of rhythm section by the title.

My alienation with the band and especially its frontman was reinforced when I was offered via unsolicited e-mail from "Eddieklive" someday Kowalczyks favorite tea to buy, and he told in an interview at Rock am Ring on the new album (Black Mountains), while only spoke of himself. In all recent live performances I saw in particular a sad apathetic Pat Dahlheimer; on "Live at the Paradiso" is almost heartbreaking. The band was even before the official break history.

Then the ugly events came to the court proceedings. Granted, the communication to the fans Chad Taylor should have done differently. He was vulnerable to all Ed-fans, for example, in the comments to last Rolling Stone interview with Ed.

But I kept the three, because for me it was always clear that Ed's voice though is quite good, but not live without Gracey Drums, Taylors riffs and va Pats Bass works; as well as their creative input. The best proof of this is the last album in which the instruments to insignificance are blurred, in a music that comes exclusively from Eds spring.

Now they are back! Chris Shinn is an excellent singer. I agree that a review of about entertainment, that there is a maturity in his right, the Ed has so never reached. The old songs live work (much better and the title of "Mental Jewelry") with him as well as the new on this brilliant album. It's like in the old days, when I heard a live song over and over again, and constantly new discovered here a horny break from Gracey, get a great bass line, and many small, delicate reef speckles of Taylor. Shinn returns to such a power in its true that I rock immediately around the house (and my little girl too). Not all songs are perfectly mixed, some one would probably. can do better. Since I mainly the problem that I have heard in the first couple of live versions, where the rough, natural just better comes into its own. The weakest song in my mind is "We open the door" (except in an acoustic version on Youtube), ironically, for Taylor and many reviewers on the Internet live music par excellence. Is also quite skipped times "Natural Born Killers". But otherwise I would listen to the album all at full volume in a loop, if I could.

And give me great pleasure recordings of live gigs, where Pat is happy on stage again. This man who can immerse themselves in his music so much and almost as if in a trance from making good music with beautiful bass lines masterpieces. That alone was and is worth it.

If now and again these tiresome discussion starts, whether live without Ed is still live: love Ed fans, if you are of the opinion, live without Ed is no longer live, then you were but always only Ed fans, but not Live fans. Then the band for you was just nameless rhythm section of your favorite singer. So Just stay with Ed, you are happy that he is traveling solo. And let us live our fans band consisting of four members, who all have their share of the music.
