To wit:
1. KISS were never really a classic hard rock band. When I read in the reviews here, they had earlier written such a "Hard Rock Firecracker" as Deuce or Strutter, I have to smile frankly already ..
Even in these early songs, it was always to catchy melodies, and the "hard" on KISS came rather in their image and stage show to the fore than in the music.
2. The above statement should not be misconstrued as criticism. On the contrary, writing catchy melodies, I think quite frankly one of the greatest strengths of Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley (in any case, as long as they were supported by good producers!).
If the two hold for two of the great songwriters in rock history, they are not so wrong in my opinion!
3. This is probably for many of the most controversial point:
I believe that the departure of the original members Criss and Frehley band MUSICAL has clearly been good!
Already on this album, which still do not criss-legitimate successor Eric Carr served the drums, the level of drumming compared to highly acclaimed albums like Love Gun or Destroyer is clearly [frankly: many times] increased.
Anton Figg gives the songs a lightness that would not have been achieved with Peter Criss unquestionably.
His playing was too often a dry rhythm Keep not excessive.
In summary:
I like this album still a lot better than its predecessor Dynasty. Although I also think "Shandi" quite failed, but first, it is compared to subsequent tests ballads like "Forever" still quite good, and secondly, is on the plus side with the opener "Is that you?" I think is a real classic, which then connect at irregular intervals such Poprockperlen as "Tomorrow", "What makes the world go round", "She`s so European" and "Talk to me".
And the rest is to be consulted at least interesting.
The only real drawback for me is that the album drops significantly towards the end, as the last three songs rather than Killer Filler are ..;)
Nevertheless, earned four stars.
