I love Gemmell and his lively style. Defiant is no exception to the rule, but it lacks breath. Epic initially, it becomes a little too fast at the end, almost neglecting certain passages (or the lyricism of the death of the storyteller and the final duel), so that nothing was left to chance in Legend (one of my books lighthouse, I have not found better in the genre "siege impossible to keep," or each character has SA site). Here, it's more messy, roles are on the run and poorly placed in order of importance. There is a very nice style, a human story with engaging characters and archetypes away.
