Wings (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Almost 30 years ago, the musical career of Bonnie Tyler began. The first few years she made music with the same old song-writing team Scott / Wolfe which songs specially and especially composed for them. Your first 4 albums were then also a very unique style and character, as it had no other artist and from this time immortal hits like "Lost in France" and "It's a Heartache".
After separating from her songwriter Team Bonnie worked with changeable success with a variety of producers from Dieter Bohlen to Jim Steinman and tried with different ideas - such as the inclusion of world hits of other artists along with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, or repeated publication of its own to have commercial success - greatest hits in French.
As a singer Bonnie was always great and was really over time even better; but in certain albums you had the impression that the matter was not more to Bonnie's music, but hopefully a commercially successful music concept for the Bonnie had given her voice.
This is now changing with the present album: Wings is an album that has worked hard on the Bonnie Tyler, she has yet written a majority of the songs together with a co-writer himself. Also the sound is uniform and specifically. You can tell it makes the music that you like and that suits her and does not follow any commercial idea.
Generally WINGS an incredibly pleasing album. Maybe no big hits it, but music that a spontaneous and like the one from getting bored. Sonically, the songs are sometimes rock, sometimes it sounds like soft rock and Kelly Family. Out tip: the French-sung version of "Louise" (it sounds so awful when Englishman sing French, that it again is eerily beautiful) or "Crying in Berlin" (a typically dramatic Bonnie Tyler ballad), or "I will not look back "or .. hm .. actually 80% of the album.
A bit of commercialism had would nonetheless be still and so Bonnie has two new versions of their greatest hits "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "It's a Heartache" packed with the album. In my opinion, they would have better not done, at least in the case of "It's a heartache": the new version is horrible and would certainly become in this instrumentation not a hit, while the original recording is a real evergreen, which even today often on Radio can be heard.
I fear, the wonderful character-album Wings will no longer get the hearing it deserves. On too many commercial ideas Bonnie has admitted, as that they are as an artist yet duly respected and observed. Those who buy the album anyway or get paid, are - like me - have great pleasure and hear it often and on many occasions.
