In "The Last Story" to play for the most part the mercenaries "Zael" who wants to settle out of the dreary and dangerous mercenary life to become a knight. But go he and his comrades Dagran, Yurick, Lowell, and Syrenne Mirania to the island as a kind of fortress Lazuli which applies. WHILE the rest of the planet is dying slowly but surely remains Lazuli unaffected. Mercenaries? Slowly dying world? That everything höhrt very much like the story of Final Fantasy 7 on but I can say that this is the single compounds each of the two games are even though "The Last Story" comes from the same creator.
In general, the story is not bad but does not reach the quality of old FF parts because it is a bit too cheesy.
Already the battle system clearly shows that "The Last Story" a completely different topic than Final Fantasy 7. Basically, the game is more of a dungeon crawler! It moves through relatively straight areas where the opponents are firmly positioned. Before the battle begins you can from the air an overview how the opponents are placed. It is in many battles absolutely vital first healer and magician off before makes up the rest. Whoever strikes stubborn it happening is especially in later battles often in the Bredulie. Instead, you can go behind walls for cover and a whirlwind on the opponent as well as special techniques, such as the wall jump used to cause massive damage part. Even bridges, pillars etc. can be crush to do to opponents.
A very important feature in the battle is the "Focus" capability of Zael. Once the focus is active attention is drawn to all opponents Zael. This allows the other group members (all of which are controlled NPC) to prepare their attacks and to go in healing circles. With active focus can also fallen comrades revive when you walk past them. This can be up to 5 times after that make the character Ko. If Zael has fallen 5 times it's Game Over.
Magic is very powerful and needs several seconds preparation if the character is hit while he has completely start over. Magicians seek prompt attention to itself if you have not activated the focus. A spell cast to leave for a while a circle on the floor one can stir up something important in the many boss battles is especially to trigger status changes.
The Ki of the group is not bad because they themselves heal in time, however, and otherwise act well.
The difficulty is a bit difficult to describe. On the one hand, some opponents really are extremely powerful and can do a with a single spell. But on the other hand, the game is thus not necessarily difficult because you have many opportunities to do something about it. Either you ballert the magician with the crossbow front of the bib to cancel its magic or to take cover or to lead a spin attack from to disturb him or simply makes an evasive roll. In addition, 5 lives are really much for the usually quite short fights. If you block it also reduces the damage to a minimum regardless of the attack it is. Even magic can block and even reflect fully. If You've Figured out the tactics for the bosses take the fight usually less than 5 minutes otherwise goes under you. Where one always give clear advice to group members.
If you do not fight you can usually stretch your legs in lazuli and small side Missioen make the money and resources to contribute. A trading system is available with the things you can profitably sell.
What has really tuned me something negative is the art of the game. As usual, you get a 480p resolution offered and therefore the game already looks innately very pixelated but that's all Wii Games that. But what is immediately striking is the enormous slowdowns of the game which always occur when one is in large rooms or if many enemies are around you. In places it is so bad that one already thinks to be on the road in slow motion. For me, that's not really comprehensible for hitherto the greatest figures of the game looks much better than Xenoblade having considerably more size.
The character development is unlikely to be for everyone. The Charas levels in the appropriate areas very quickly to a certain point and then comes almost nothing. This is very reminiscent of FF13. Before the Boss Fights summoning circles are usually available where you can call a group opponent once again to get level up so. If Levelup everything is forgiven completely automatically and you can not influence. In order to improve weapons you need money and only later still an item in the first stages. Just because the money is not an issue opponents throw a lot of it.
CONCLUSION: Honestly ... by the din to the game I expected more me. It is bad in any way but it still seems too straightforward and the story is somewhat weaker than hoped. The fighting a lot of fun but once you get the techniques such as wall jumping, failure and focus they have mastered a no brainer. In addition, it's just a pity again that the Wii is technically so far down. In HD, and with more power this game would have been a whole rod handsome and playable. Nevertheless, it's a good game that every RPG fan should play. Nevertheless, I want to make it absolutely clear that Mistwalker with "Lost Odyssey" significantly better job has done.
