To start up the R7 takes about 20 seconds (with password entry). This could thereby accelerate that one quick start of Windows 8 enabled. Without entering a password, the notebook in under 10 seconds would be available.
While controlling with your finger or a stylus, the touchscreen responds immediately and also liquid. I use still mostly the mouse that came with that is connected via a USB dongle with the notebook. The control over the touch pad is like a fiddly affair. This is not because of the position behind the keyboard, but rather to the somewhat too hard for my taste, tactile feedback. Would be of little softer, and the touchpad more sensitive then it would be great. The position itself is not disturbing in my eyes.
The display I have often in the "semi-forward position". So quasi between touchpad and keyboard. But all positions function properly. No bugs or problems as mentioned in another review. If you fold the screen back, it takes about a second until it turns. Edgewise is apparently only when the display is in "Padmodus" is. Say very laid. Power but also in my eyes different little sense.
Topic Wireless:
Apparently makes always problems. I'm mostly just about 5 meters or 2 walls from the router. I have to test the Wi-Lans is a 5 minute video on Youtube launched (advertising film an outdoor camera) and set to 720p. The video was to stand without once. Seems to be working.
Also I tested a multiplayer online PC game. There was then in the long run always massive delays that did not exist over a traditional LAN connection.
These tests I've done both in the network, as well as in battery mode. There were no noticeable differences.
Note to Windows 8:
I had quite concerned about the operating system because of the bad reputation which it has. These have quickly vanished into thin air. When one is only half an hour working intensively with the new Windows 8 quickly determine which has not really changed much. The only thing I really miss the Start menu's bottom left of the desktop.
But neither can I find the tiles confusing, yet that possibility "shutdown" is hidden, nor that the "active edges" are disturbing.
It is an absolutely stable operating system with many new features to its predecessors in that you can either take in short and painless, or you can demonize for better or worse.
Conclusion:
The Aspire R7 is a good notebook. I would highly recommend bedinungslos.
