Henri Guillemin: enthusiastic biographer Victor Hugo

Hugo (Paperback)

Customer Review

The great French historian (celebrated in Switzerland) that was Henri Guillemin (1903-1992) had political passions, literary, and historical for big men like Jules Vallès, Jean Jaurès, Émile Zola, JJ Rousseau, Robespierre, Charles Peguy Georges Bernanos, Lamartine, Frederic Ozanam, etc. and Victor Hugo!)

Besides being passionate, he mastered particularly well since Victor Hugo wrote several books on it such as "humor of Victor Hugo"; "Victor Hugo stones (verse and prose)"; "Victor Hugo and sexuality"; "Sunken Adele, daughter of Victor Hugo."; add to these four books, numerous books on the revolution of 1848, the Second Empire where Henri Guillemin quotes profusely Victor Hugo, and this book one: the 5th of Victor Hugo, whose first edition dates from 1951.

A beautiful and educational -Synthetic reissue 220 pages- embellished with illustrations, and poems of the author on a paper agrèable. I must say that if I like more with the writer Victor Hugo that he was naive policy; I enjoy just as much style, -sometimes little goal- enthusiasm and precision of Henri Guillemin.

Nb: If you want to deepen the life and oeuvre by Victor Hugo, I advise the fictionalized biography of Alain Decaux (a handsome sum of 1,000 pages), and for those who also like to see the dark side of Victor Hugo, the Marxist pamphlet Paul Lafargue "The legend of Victor Hugo" (from 1885). DHenri Guillemin Paul Lafargue, you have to read Victor Hugo in the critical aspects as under the glowing aspects.
