The themes are common to the trilogy of Lord of the Rings (like the hobbits, Gandalf, elves), but the composer does not simply a recycling, oh no, it improves the sublime. Besides, I've never had the impression to hear the soundtrack of LotR, but that of another film, just as I did not have the impression of watching LOTR when I saw "The Hobbit" at the movies.
And what about the theme of Thorin and his company of Dwarves? Simply fabulous! He takes us with these brave warriors and it sometimes takes us want to support them in their quest to Erebor. "Over Hill" is probably the most epic track for me. I can still see the image of the Dwarves walking on the crest of the mountain, like the Fellowship of the Ring, that's eleven years of this.
Special mention to "Misty Mountains" that gives me chills every time I hear it. It stuck in my head for a week and it is not rare that I sifflotte on my job or I sing murmuring. And it is the same for "Song of the Lonely Mountain" Neil Finn, who concluded magnificently the film.
Hats off to Mr. Shore that has managed to create a clean partition to this film without falling into the trap of self-plagiarism. I look forward to listening to the soundtrack of the next two parts of the new trilogy.
