This speedometer delivers what it promises - at least for the range of functions. Those looking for temperature display and Höhenmeßfunktionen, and prefer to have a cable connection, can not avoid this speedometer to a comparable competitor product does not exist. However, one should consider whether he would rather can not do without one or the other function, and it then acquires a speedometer that can be operated even while driving.
Because the software this speedometer is a disaster and obviously written by an intern who neither of usability nor of cycling or even spelling has any idea (yeah, right, the menus are full of misspellings such as "sleep mode" or "Celsius").
Two things must be distinguished: The display and the user interface. The display shows five different functions simultaneously, but four of them are predefined (temperature, altitude, slope, speed). All other tens of features of the device must be connected in the fifth row. So there are always two of the ads are occupied by height measurement capabilities, while it is not possible, for example, to let time and distance display simultaneously. But do not worry, the only one arbitrary line can also spamming with altimeter functions, which is quite something!
Since you so really can change a single line anyway, a single button for switching would theoretically rich, but far from it, because that would be too easy! So VDO has the speedometer equal donated five buttons, and come up with an illogical possible user guidance. The keys are named (I quote the manual) "C - Clear", "M - Menu", "A - Alti", "P - stopwatch" and "bike". So far so good, except that probably even with VDO No one knows why the stopwatch button "P" is called and the BIKE button deserves no shortcut. The reader may now think that's easy, with A you can switch through the Altimeterfunktionen, with BIKE the other functions, and with P start and stop the stopwatch. But far from it, because it would still be far too easy! I quote again the instruction "With the key combination 'ALTI + P' the stopwatch is started / stopped." Apart from the fact that the Alti-key is not abbreviated in this sentence, the stopwatch button but already (probably the writer wanted the ominous P again accommodate), it brings even the whole madness of this operation expressed. Now the computer has only five buttons, and for as an essential function you have to simultaneously press two. And absolutely the same. Because if you one of the keys even one tenth of a second rather than the other releases, the tacho option of jumping in the Altimeter function or to display the time, depending on which you first let go.
In addition to the trick of completely mindless shortcuts there are then also submenus which can be called only if a particular function is selected. To go to a completely normal function as the total number of kilometers you have so
1. Continue to press BIKE until the trip odometer display
2. Then press M.
3. Then either A or P button until the odometer display. (Yes, you have to actually press the altimeter or the stopwatch button to come to the total distance.)
The last point deserves maybe a little explanation: The computer can be used for two different wheels. You can also switch between the wheels (more on that later). However, you have singled out at random a few positions with VDO, which are not automatically mitumgestellt when changing bikes, but you have to be changed by hand every time. So if you can show the total kilometers for example, are always only the display of wheel 1, even if one uses just wheel 2. Then you can switch to A or P by hand on wheel 2. While this does not make sense, confuses the user but still a little more, and that was obviously the goal of developers.
To illustrate again the whole insanity of this user guide, here how wechelt from bike 1 to bike 2:
1. M button for 3 seconds.
2. The first adjustment is "language" because VDO believes the user wants much rather keep changing the menu language, the speedometer of a bike, try to change to the other.
3. That is why you leaf with "Alti" or the popular "P" to "Wheel selection", and comes to a few functions over which one probably in the house VDO more needs than the change from mountain biking to racing, for example, "wheel size" or "Unit"
4. Press "M". The key would be pressed again.
5. Press Again "Alti" or "P"
6. Press "M".
7. Press "M". Yes, you have to press in succession the two. Just like that, the key is it simply necessary.
8. "C" hold for three seconds.
If you can memorize all menus and makes no operator error, then you have to press at least nine buttons to switch from bike 1 to bike 2, two of three seconds each time. This is actually the shortest route, as it is in the instructions. And for that, I prefer just spent from a star.
