Lovely Lena: The debut album of the ESC-winner 2010

Supplement May 30, 2010: And 12 points go to "lovely Lena" and Germany. So it was 9 times on that memorable final day of the Euro Vision Song Contest. And across Europe. This says nothing about the quality of this on the show day-reviewed by me album. But very much about the artist and her gift to inspire their audience something. In this light, one may also read this review, I have otherwise left unchanged (except for the new title, which I indeed could not begin until after 29 May :-). Oh, and my warmest congratulations and thanks, Lena, that you all reviews defiance ("which is always' last" just hype, "chance", "bad English" etc.) brought the victory for Germany have. Would be interesting to see if any of the critics has the size to correct itself :-)

Now it has been released - that many fans (more than 100,000 in Facebook) long-awaited first album of Lena (Meyer-Landrut). In time the Euro Vision Song Contest in Oslo in order also many a critic to make your appearance on May 29, the wind from the sails. To make it short: It has succeeded. But first things first:

1. "externals"

The Deluxe Edition comes with the music CD and a bonus DVD featuring a 23-minute film "Unser Star für Oslo Lena" and the popular YouTube music video of Satellite are. The booklet contains the usual background information (composer, producer, etc.) 13 pictures of Lena, which are made very pretty and Lena show as it probably sees himself: very funny, but also dreamy, thoughtful or just sweet. Even the booklet will be for the fan a reason to not only acquire the digital version. The CD case itself makes a stable impression (although it is likely to be exposed to less wear well in times of immediate import on the MP3 player).

2. music

The album contains 13 tracks, which can be divided into 3 groups:

a) Most prospective of this album are likely to be well known: Satellite (USFO-winning song and the German contribution for Oslo), Bee and Love me (the other titles of USFO finale), all already on the Maxi-CD in March 2010 published. These titles have written music history, because Lena was present with them immediately and simultaneously in the Top 4 of the music charts (also: Download all time record), which is no other artist so far succeeded. In addition, the cover versions of "My Same" (Original: Adele) and "Mr. Curiosity (original Jason Mraz), which, although already by the live video on the USFO page known to me but were rerecorded here personally. the live versions better, but this is certainly a matter of taste. all like just to show these two titles that Lena is an exceptional performer that manages to give a great original song again a special, personalized touch.

b) Of the remaining 8 7 titles were written by Stefan Raab, and Lena has worked on the texts. Of course they were here very excited, and the result is impressive. Of course you can not expect a work that raises an artist after 2 years origination, maturity and production time in the musical Olympus. And perhaps one misses here and there also the style of Lena in her cover versions of Kate Nash Title (Foundations, Mouthwash) has awarded. But still: Consistently beautiful melodies, good groove, well matched to Lena's voice. Elated Naughty Music for balmy summer evenings: here comes to a good mood, to swing automatically. To try this (only partially legitimate) comparison with Max Mutzke: Who likes Max, will certainly also consider staying at Lena. Playing tips are from my point of view: My Cassette Player (fast), I like to bang my head (crazy) and Caterpillar in the Rain (beautiful ballad). Looks already here (hear) it also the versatility of this young artist.

c) If the third "group", consisting of a title: The only title which is known neither USFO still comes from Stefan Raab: Not Following You (by Elena Jane Goulding and Jonny Lattimer): Class !! Absolute hit potential, fast, catchy quality, perfectly matching Lenas voice. Check it, if you had not yet skeptical. But whether just the not written by Raab (admittedly produced by him), the first title is decoupling?

3. Bonus-DVD

The music video of Satellite has now more than 7 million times viewed (in different versions) on youtube and needs no further explanation. The 23 minute film is a nice bonus material for fans: Many "sound bites" of Lena, small interviews, background scenes from USFO, statements by artists such as Marius Müller Westernhagen or Cassandra Steen. Nice also insights behind the scenes of the recording of the video Satellite. The only downer for those fans who on Pro7 seen on May 7 at 0.30 clock on the Special Lena and / or recorded and then in the morning with anticipation the Amazon parcels opened: DVD movie and Pro7 Special are identical. Well, die-hard fans get in May so much "Lena pure".

4. Conclusion

The hype around Lena was and is enormous. Rarely has so much reported, written and discussed a newcomer like about Lena Meyer-Landrut. The comparisons with DSDS, who fired this discussion, of course, are lagging so much that I do not want to dwell on it. I want to emphasize, however, that the allegation that Lena could not sing, already operated from inaccurate assumptions: First, one should not accuse the singer of a simple reason, just because you do not like their music or voice. Secondly musicality is not a question of physical measurements (You set the tone "hit", and if so, is the now dead :-) but of feeling, so comes from the heart or stomach and goes back there. In this sense, Lena creates what is often denied other: They reach people in a way that is described with authenticity but imperfectly: it touches. What more could you expect? Most likely a second album, entirely produced in peace and Lena "cut to the body." And it is not critical, as cuts in Oslo. Personally, I wish her all the best, of course. She has made me with their music in the last few weeks a lot of joy.
