In London, for a rainy day, a young woman, Maggie Garrison, goes to his first day of work after almost two years of unemployment. His next-door neighbor got her a secretarial position with his nephew, a private detective named Anthony Wight.
His enthusiasm takes a hit when it enters the office of Wight. The latter, drunk, fell asleep at his desk and the agency is a real mess. Mechanically, Maggy begins with answering the phone, then the papers before class get to know some of the occupants of the building where the agency is installed.
A few days later, arriving at work, she saw an ambulance parked outside the building of the agency that carries Wight. It has been beaten and is quite bad shape. Maggy crosses a police inspecting the premises; the two young women sympathize and decide to go out at night to drink a glass.
Later Wight called Maggy hospital and asked him to find his wallet. Intrigued, she looks at what is there and notes are nothing special. But she realizes that the agency is supervised by a small knock, who takes it from spinning out of the building ...
