Houses of the Holy (CD)

Customer Review

In 1973, the year of the completion and release of this album, Led Zeppelin was at the height of his glory. It must be said that the first four albums are fabulous; Volumes I and II, enormous, managed to create a kind of new kind, hard-rock crossed with powerful blues, wild and original, rhythm lead, sharp guitars and inventive Jimmy Page (author of most music group ) and aggressive voice, high-pitched and quite incredible presence of Robert Plant (the latter rather the cause of the majority of the texts). The third and fourth albums changing tone in the background like in shape, (dichotomy between electric and acoustic front face for the III research sounds from other cultures and mysticism in the fourth, while remaining most often down to earth, that is to say in a very virulent heavy-metal).
And LZ further continued his research with this "Houses of the Holy" which baffled the fans but that is another great success, probably the most varied album, and that begins very hard with the grandiose "The Song Remains The Same ", hitting, disheveled, guitars just stunning ... It sounds like Steve Howe at times!
Other pieces draw very different climates, hard-rocks fit-in with the tab Led Zep 'always, is to say that originality and simplicity, this enthusiasm if recognizable ("Dancing Days", hard-rock minor key, almost melancholy, beautiful, "The Ocean" more ground, ending the drive slightly as it began), illuminated slide acoustic ballad ("The Rain Song") amid mellotron, folk-rock to ambitious title incessant breaks ("Over The Hills And Far Away") and high atmospheric beach Pink Floyd ("No Quarter") with its ethereal and elusive keyboards made by bassist John Paul Jones.
And finally two titles a little more distant from the band's universe (although this universe is, again, large enough): "The Crunge" the guitar riff and feeling in James Brown and "D'yer Ma'ker ", the only reggae Led Zeppelin, but always with that incredible battery, which fills the space so unique manner, without covering other instruments provided ... What talent (late John Bonham ...) !
A large disk, less homogenous and powerful than the previous, but supplied grandiose titles.
The fifth album of Led Zeppelin (with his wallet "shock", naked children climbing the Giant's Causeway, as meeting the irresistible presence of a supernatural light, all in tones rather psychedelic) is indeed as indispensable the first four!
