On Warm Leatherette and nightclubbing it was specifically the cover versions, where Grace Jones and her colleagues left their mark. Including Roxy Music's Love Is The Drug, Chrissie Hyndes Private Life, nightclubbing of Iggy Pop and David Bowie, Breakdown of Tom Petty, Use Me by Bill Withers, Walking In The Rain (Flash & The Pan), She's Lost Control (Joy Division) or the written aloud booklet specifically for them by Sting Demolition Man (The Police took their version later on). With Pull Up To The Bumper and I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango) are here also two of their greatest standards to find. Most striking for me is their version of Marianne Faithfull I've Done It Again, she sings wonderfully soft and with feeling. Since it is not even the feisty vamp, but that sounds almost like a long-lost recording of Dusty Springfield. On Living My Life there was then propagated his own compositions. These three albums Grace Jones was indeed the critics favorite, great sales success they had at that time but not.
Private Life - The Compass Point Sessions offers a total of 25 songs from this period and Slave To The Rhythm 1985 a total cycle time of about 2.5 hours. The latter belongs here but not really there and is rather a nice bonus. This song was produced together with Trevor Horn and shows its talent as a producer. Many songs are represented here in their full versions, which used only on the Maxis or cassette versions of albums. These are usually but not annoying Remixes but simply extended versions with additional stanzas or instrumental parts. Much of it was only released here on CD. Alone Love Is The Drug of more than 8.5 minutes worth buying. There are some other previously unreleased versions and with Ring Of Fire (Johnny Cash) and Man Around The House two previously unreleased songs from the Living My Life sessions.
Very commendable is the detailed booklet with an essay by Brian Chin, which also includes some quotes of stakeholders.
The remastering is good. On the also highly recommended Deluxe Edition of nightclubbing songs come but something dynamic therefore.
Conclusion:
The most important songs of 3 albums are here, plus a few B-sides, unreleased and especially many long versions make this double CD is highly recommended. Time Looser and more cool music Grace Jones has not veröfffentlicht until her comeback Hurricane. Currently (as of March 2015) at a bargain price in the "3 CDs for 15 Euro" action erhätlich.
