Melancholic

Customer Review

If he did was the first album by a young singer at the beginning of a long successful career, one might think that this is the opposite of the last album of a former singer, who arrives in the last stage of a career and his life.
This album seems to me, in fact, borrowing a bitter sweet nostalgia that could be that of an older person, having lost his illusions or observing life with a remote setback which any inherent criticism can not be absent.

I'm not a specialist in words. But at first glance it seems to be much question of passing time, scrolling uncontrollable, linking us irrevocably, while at times the contrary, it seems endless when one is taken by the monotony of Sunday ... rain.
It seems as matter of routine, of illusory promises, "almost beautiful life," ephemeral love and without great expectations.
All seems very pessimistic and very melancholy or dark.
However, the composition is original, quiet, creative, measured, not in search of any pursuit of a fad.
If the voice is all finesse, almost fragile and uncertain times, the charm is certainly present (I am not a woman, but I guess) and nostalgia never far away.
The music is beautiful, soft, appealing to diverse sounds, alternating here sounding vaguely jazzy there rather classic, with the violin in the background, or the cello, while guitar, percussion and of course piano, with all the character it prints at times the composition, provide most, sometimes interspersed with excerpts from songs of the 1930s, as this excerpt from "River of No Return," starring Marilyn Monroe in "The kites" which reinforces the nostalgic side.

An album, in total, extremely melancholy, dark, pretty sad, but beautiful, poetic, worked, original, creative. That ends on a positive note, although it is still in the register of nostalgia and 1930s.
So, first or last album?
I stopped here in 2001 and had also never listened since. I go now to discover the new album from 2010 ...
