Minimalist Soul Funk

Minimalist Soul Funk

Cricklewood Broadway (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Beady Belle have me with her last albums completely convinced varied, constantly changing, melodies that can no longer get out of your head and perfect instrumentation.
The change remains, but somehow ignites the new album with me not so much like the predecessor.
The new album "Cricklewood Broadway" comes with a soulful earthy and very cool basic character, therefore, but it may not completely convince me.
Based on the British best-selling novel "White Teeth," a book about living in London immigrants, there are more electronically-scale minimalist soul and funk rhythms, which were orchestrated very minimalist and have little real instruments. Winds and Strings are entirely absent, the folkloristic elements have disappeared.
So the album begins very angular, slightly melodious with "Saved", which just then runs to 5 minutes for me. Also "Poppy Burt Jones" bores me more and does not go into my ear.
"So far so good" may in funky Uptempobereich against fully convince and bring again a successful tune. "My name on the world" is the second most most striking song with lots of effects and a strong groove. The ballads "Faith", "Every moment" and "Half-truth" skillfully pairs the familiar melodies Beady Belles with the new minimalist sound.
Overall, I am seen by the new songs a little disappointed overall and can be carried away by mere eulogies for the last albums only for four stars. Nevertheless, the whole increase of hearing to listen and a chance you have to give the album as Beady Belle fan already, especially just makes the voice addictive and also the unusual arrangements certainly have long-term character.
