Musically Once everything as usual: Hammering guitar riffs that go towards punk rock. Diess time the sound is more massive, a merit of Mike Fraser at the mixing desk (among others he has created hand also the last album Black Ice by AC / DC).
When sound has been dispensed with unnecessary gimmicks. Direct, powerful and dirty. As you turn like on a little further! However, I'm a huge fans of the last album Below the Belt. There seemed to me singing and guitar better harmonize. The riffs personally liked better. This time the riffs are clearly punky. But that is not a criterion for good and evil, but simply a matter of taste.
Also worth mentioning is perhaps: the song "Type of Girl" there is a two-part guitar solo. Danko Jones repeatedly stressed that he was not a very good guitarist. But technically he has evolved audible on his last albums.
The songs are good. They rock, they joke, but are not quite as catchy as on the previous album "Below the Belt", on which every song was really a hit.
Black and Blue is of course in the shadow of "Below the Belt". But is considered on its Black and Blue a really good album with fat sound!
