Ghost in the Machine (Audio CD)

Customer Review

In 1981 again published by A & M's fourth album of "policemen" from GB has with the other Police albums a lot in common.
The sales figures were once again huge, there were a number of successful single releases, Sting wrote the bulk of the music (almost all) and the fans and even most critics were satisfied.
Also the music is again influenced by a variety of other styles and quite varied.
Another new feature is the "Ghost in the Machine" that amplified instruments and keyboards have been used, what the band's sound then but already significantly altered.
Andy Summers was not agree and felt degraded and Copeland as a player for Sting.
The typical Trio character, rough, direct the sound was lost in the reorganization.
The album of the not so enthusiastic critics gave him exactly right on this point, also found it too pop.
Although my "Ghost in the Machine" still very good like I have seen in the long term give right Summers.
Sting had indeed always written the majority of the music, but you had the trio always seen as a real band, as in the earlier music Summers guitar sound and Copeland's unusual, hard Drumming is an important part of the picture abgaben.Spätestens on "Synchronicity" had already places the feeling to hear a Sting album with Summers and Copeland as a guest musician; unwillingly caught in the mainstream, free on the title track again briefly.
Despite these already gradually gathering dark clouds over the band GITM has become an interesting, fresh, very good album for me.
Actually gave me the (few anyway) compositions by Summers and Copeland like always less or not at all, as the Sting, here I am very pleased with the final track and is of Copeland.
"Darkness" is a real highlight on the disc, just great.
Unfortunately, this is not new, also back a few pieces on it that drop significantly.
"One World" I always Skippe simply embarrassing this song.
Also "re-humanize Youself" seems arg Platt; audible, but ... oh well.
"Demolution Man" has been covered several times, the version of Manfred Mann I like better by far.

But that can pull down for me the Appreciation Never.
The rest is all good for 5 star, I mean.
Even the cover has managed it to the heads of the musicians represent.

The sound of the album is very good, it has committed to the production the experienced Hugh Padgham.
The mastering of the record took Ted Jensen, a master of his trade.
The first CD-series is, as I have never experienced at A & M differently, encouraging well.
In 1995 there was a first on CD remastering which wurde.Das conducted by David Collins I do not know unfortunately.
2002, there were still a remastering for CD and SACD by the highly respected Bob Ludwig.
Again worked clean, no "Loudness War", ie no dynamic reduction and no modulation to the limit or even about.
I'm happy with my old vinyl edition, the old AM Master + CD and Bob Ludwig Remaster and therefore knows about the also appeared Japan releases (Vinyl, CD, SACD), SHM-CD reissues (expensive carrier material is the sound improve again) and so nothing, I see no need to look any further.
In relevant forums much a subject of discussion, but most controversial.
