The Rasmus (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Gloomy bombastic rock has made them famous, at least in Germany The Rasmus. "In the Shadows" was rightly a smash hit, even if I myself could never begin really much with the patch Dunkelattitüde. Perhaps it is precisely at this attitude that The Rasmus are often underestimated by critics, because both the magnificent songs and the unmistakable voice of Lauri I have always been fascinated, though can never become a huge fan.

What I welcome in particular, is the steady transformation that takes this band, because nothing is as boring as a band that always remains in its old corset because it shuns the risk or want to stay true to their old success. Was added on the last album as "Black Roses" already with many electronic elements, this way will be systematically continued on "The Rasmus", with one big difference: The songs themselves have even more substance.
Sound the last album still tuned into hits, was taken again with honest and obviously personal songwriting Vorlieb.
But is also crucial that the synthesizers are used on this album quite different, The Rasmus have created a new, spherical sound, which already makes the opener "Stranger" for really big emotions.
While the single "I'm a Mess" and "It's Your Night" go much further forward and into his ear, but remain the basic principle of the new sounds faithful before it again is very emotional with "Save Me Once Again".
And just when you think: "all sounds great, but every song in the style will be permanently also boring" The Rasmus hit with "Someone's Gonna Light You Up" again in the earthy rock notch. Just as if they wanted to divide their album in lines, they make the next two songs just continue until the next surprise is at once: The Rasmus with acoustic elements but discharged in the chorus back into rock. "Somewhere" but do not really convince. From disappointment but can not speak, because the very sophisticated "Friends Do not Do That" Pull The Rasmus again all the stops against the last, again slightly weaker song "Sky" is no longer so very important.

In summary, one can say that The Rasmus are really matured. I personally like the more emotional songs on this album best, my highlights are "Stranger", "Save Me Once Again" and "Friends Do not Do That" actually. This album makes me more than any other on the further development of The Rasmus curious - but precisely this development makes me wonder why Lauri because again had to infect the springs, it nevertheless no longer fits to the musical development of the band and could some people prevent them from dealing again without prejudices with The Rasmus. But that will be only my subjective impression, the music counts. And that is absolutely amazing on this album.
