One of his masterpieces, but .....

Overall, this CD is from the best time of Mey and includes some of his masterpieces. That's Chanson-art on all (!!!!) the highest level. The "but ..." in the title refers to the fact that I live versions (only Mey with guitar) clearly prefer out of this phase of his work. The arrangements of the studio albums sometimes go a bit to hit Illustrative, but that's a matter of taste. The parallel live album is "20.00 clock", which is for me one of the best albums of music of the last century.

Now even to CD: Here is everything to find what Mey made up and his beherrschat so masterfully (has):

* Intelligent, critical Chanson (in my opinion Mey has always been critical of, but not tagesakutell critical, but at a deeper level, poetic), for example, "The old bear is dead ...." Susann or "There is no Maikäfer more ". The strong connection to animals he celebrated here at the highest poetic level and not on the sometimes something simple of his anti-meat eaters tirades of recent years).

* Very (!!!) deep, nachgeradezu as texts that are already classics of modern poetry for me. There are texts of a quality that almost can touch painful and a truly accompany through life (and wear!) * Very funny songs. Here is the qualitative difference to later works greatest. The images and puns used are terrific.
