With its very ugly cover symbolizing quite the joke at the con 'head to Toto', Turn Back, released in 1981, third album Toto, is probably their least known. We must say that this album, for great it is, contains no tube and left in a kind of total indifference (no hits it a lot, the package also off-putting). Disc sound, again, is rather poor (I mean the CD, I do not know if this is also the case of vinyl), mount it high enough for her to hear, is feeble. But for me it is the only flaw of the disc. Apart from this default sound, I must say that I do not see much negative to say on this record. OK, anti-Toto will not appreciate. Toto is a group of pop / very commercial Californian rock, and I know that fans of rock generally conchient more or less on them. Myself, I do not want this group top choice, but I confess to love well. Turn Back is my favorite with Hydra (their second album) and Insulation (their fifth), who are also entitled to their articles here. The sound of the album, apart from being feeble, is pop. The vocals are shared between Bobby Kimball, David Paich (keyboards) and Steve Lukather (guitar). Live For Today, sung by Lukather, is the rock of total capacity, with a beautiful ornament guitar riff (Let's live for today, tomorrow May never come ...). Goodbye Elenore and English Eyes are very good songs rhythmical, of rock, but still very pop.
Gift With A Golden Gun starts with a chainsaw guitar riff, and continues with a honky-tonk piano that will stride the most pure rock 'of you. Ditto for I Think I Could Stand You Forever, which starts it calmly and continued with a really hard guitar riff. A Million Miles Away is a beautiful ballad sung by Paich, Kimball with support of the choruses. Turn Back is my favorite song on the album, a piece too short, but intense and progressive limit (many keyboards, guitar sound beautiful, strange words) a title that could have been a tube. However, I do not like If It's The Last Night, the last title, soup too commercial for me (and if I, lover of Toto, I do not like this title, what about those who do not like Toto in general !!). Too silly. Turn Back But, really, is a great album, and his lack of fame, his lack of success are truly damage. Under such a lousy cover that hides a ridiculous pop gem, a short drive (37 minutes, the shortest of the group), but really endearing.
