The Division Bell (Audio CD)

Customer Review

1994 brought with Pink Floyd "The Division Bell" their last studio album out and unfortunately it does not look as if this would change again. Often criticized, are based reservations about this album in my opinion not really on its musical quality, but on the fact that there is "not-more-while Waters is" glasses is seen by many through the tiresome-annoying and therefore is not rated a priori prejudice. "The Division Bell" but shows no particular weaknesses. On the contrary, the synthesizer, Gilmour's distinctive guitar and his distinctive voice give the pieces a warm, relaxing and sometimes melancholic atmosphere. Of course, albums were like Dark Side Of The Moon (my personal favorite Floyd) or Wish You Were Here and Animals progressive. And of course this album mainstream is tailored to the taste of the masses, precisely. But, dear critics damn good mainstream! Even Take It Back, which was abused as a signature tune of a VW commercials, seamlessly joins a strong album. To name some favorites I find it personally difficult, as this would, in turn, stigmatize the other pieces as mediocre. Each piece is wonderful. Wright makes for captivating, intoxicating soundscapes, Gilmour shines on guitar, especially during his solos and above all this hovers whose warm voice, which we mentioned, one of my Vorrezensenten it already, could hear all too rare in past albums. The highlight is the lap steel solo at the end of High Hopes, the one with the best that Gilmour ever wrote for Pink Floyd. It would have been nonsense, convulsively to be progressive or zurückzubegeben even back to the psychedelic roots of the first album and to pick up a much-mentioned criticism of this album, thus really to run the risk, to copy itself ,. And even if the thematic and textual sharpness of earlier days was lost with Waters, the wonderful psychedelic characteristics of previously missing, so I still think that The Division Bell certainly not the best, but definitely represents the finest work of Floyd.
