Customer Review

First of all:
Now that (almost) everything is set by software in Windows 7, I can say:
The device is great.
For someone who wants to draw professionally with a portable tablet as a "mobile Cintiq" there are in the market (for now) nothing comparable.

However, I had initially feared the hardware would not be in order, but through research and a lot of testing found out that there software (drivers) were the problems some have taken me to nervous and I would like to spare other buyers.
More on this under the heading "Software".

First a few words about

Hardware:
With iPad and co I do not want to compare the eeslate (in terms of battery etc), it is a full-fledged Windows 7 PC, processor about as fast as average desktop computer from before about 3 years.
3D graphics acceleration of Intel graphics is weak (or virtually non-existent), so nothing for demanding games. 2D performance is great, so wonderful to work or as a netbook replacement.

On the hardware side, Asus has designed a (nearly) perfect tablet.
The tray has sufficient interfaces. The USB ports fingernails-murdering inconvenient coverage drops to negative.
Otherwise, everything is solved exemplary, it is worth the functions of keys attached to learn (Ctrl-Alt-Del to as the Task Manager is semicircular key call 2 seconds press for example)
The battery life is indeed limited (2 hrs. If you go full power), but they can if you work in sleep mode with darker screen pretty good stretch (approx 3.5 hrs.).
Processing and display is super. SSD is pretty fast when you boot.
To gain memory I have a 64GB memory card to buy and have them permanently in the slot.

Keyboard: the included Asus Bluetooth keyboard is not practical in my opinion.
The on and log off the system is annoying, the keypad batteries are probably exactly then all when you need it most, and if you have time boot problems with the system you can forget about a wireless keyboard.

I have therefore a wired USB Minitasttatur of Perixx here at Amazon to order (which I highly recommend). Estimate the Bluetooth keyboard I'll never use them again.
The leatherette carrying case into which you can plug the tablet is well matched to the tablet, I'll take the tray out now rare.

The fan of the tablet I feel personally as quietly. In Sleep mode, the tray runs often passively cooled, then completely silent.

Stylus:

The included stylus is actually completely OK (right-click is longer hold in clicked state simulated) and you can make the tablet to enable the same operation. Calibration in System Preferences should make in order to be recognized the corners without distortion.
Asus runs the stylus over the WinTab driver.
Works well and precisely - BUT: the pin then (for example to modulate the opacity of the color in graphics programs) in the ASUS configuration not full pressure sensitivity. Therefore you have to install a Wacom Penabled driver.

And here I come to the Installation adventure.
I had (must have the label "Penabled", others do not) equal to the tablet an additional Wacom Stylus ordered, so that the additional button on the pen I have to, I'm used to when working with Cintiq. Since you can right-click on and the freely configurable eg additional pop-up menu draufpacken to work without liquid keyboard. To this purpose, and to the pressure sensitivity in graphics programs use, right to the opacity of the color control on printing is necessary a Wacom driver.

Software configuration:

Here Asus has not given enough effort. For a device that is interesting for subscribing professionals the configuration in the delivery condition is unsatisfactory.

I want my Installationsodyssee spare other users, so briefly the insights I have gained here:

The universal Wacom Penabled driver Wacom today on his site offers (wacom.eu-> Driver-> (Windows 7 + Tablet PC) -> isd701-8_int.exe) is unfortunately eeslate in conflict with the configuration of the ASUS and results ugly problems when booting from Windows 7 (BAD_POOL_HEADER errors that Windows 7 repair skips, but can not do anything and not rename the root cause properly so I have a long time to read on the internet until I finally get out had not the hardware but the Wacom Drivers of the trigger is).
One should not make the driver therefore.

There is a hotfix driver Wacom is only suitable for the Eeslate (not universal) and can be loaded with ASUS on the FTP archive (ISD_DualTouch_702-21).
To invite more than
[...]
The (almost) everything super. The start-up problems are gone, the driver works fine with Artrage, Manga Studio, Sketchbook Pro). However, it may not work well with Photoshop because Photoshop even the gesture is not smooth in high zoom levels and the Wacom driver apparently only unbefriediegend (only in Photoshop so, all other programs are 1a, so also 'only' an annoying software problem. Since I in MangastudioEX mainly drawing and coloring with Photoshop only and do image processing is not a problem for me, but who wants to draw sensitively with PS will be "not amused" or must be pure drawing in low zoom levels, the lines). According to Internet forums, there are driver combinations make the smoothed with PS lines in high zoom levels on the Eeslate, but has not been able to find me, Beta drivers are probably in development. Abandoned belongings to seek as I can cope with my way of working).

The Wacom driver (702-21) is configurable unfortunately not up to the corners of the tray and overruns the WinTab calibration (if you have made before installing the Wacom). This leads to merkbarem distance between stylus and cursor in the corners of the tray.
Can you live with me've already gotten used to it, but because I know that things can be done better, I hope also here the driver side to rectification of Wacom or Asus. Wacom actually cares always very good to his driver, also for old models.

I hope that with a update of the official universal Penabled Wacom driver then finally everything is super.

Another tip: there is a small tool called Modlock with you the typical keys (Ctrl, Alt, Shift, etc.) gets to the screen in a clickable menu.
Costs nothing and is great if you have no keyboard on the tablet.

Just a note about the software:
The tablet comes with Recovery DVDs.
However, the tablet has no CD drive.
Therefore, it is necessary the recovery DVDs on another Windows 7 computer on a USB stick (> 16GB!) To install.
Quite cumbersome.
Since I, as I did not know that it was the Wacom drivers for my starting problem was desperate, I have the recovery carried out on the first weekend with the tablet.
Has at least then works perfectly.

At today's prices for USB media ASUS have such a stick can equal mitliefern, I think. Or at least a way through the Internet with a program as a stick to create directly on the tablet.

Conclusion:
Had the driver not problems, I would say that is (for me) the perfect mobile tablet.
There is a point deduction.

Windows 7 is indeed not designed well for finger operation, but with the stylus along comes the wonderful, the most I use the stylus and the scrolling of web pages etc. you can switch to the Finder. The great thing about a tablet with Windows 7 is that you all his familiar desktop programs without exception can use if you want.

PS:
When installing my older Adobe CS3 suite of DVD (via network shared by others Rechenr) Adobe fell again on uncomfortable:
Illustrator and InDesign CS3 can be the au Eeslate not install because supposedly not enough screen resolution. (Question why Adobe such decisions does not leave me the user but the installation process is in derogation).
Way to lt. Adobe disable be de graphics drivers and then install them. WARNING: Do not make if no one 2. Monitor the desktop reflects on Eeslate depends.
Otherwise it duster because the backlight trays ausgeht-- that was a shock (way out: keep under bright lamp and enable the driver again, take a deep breath * G *). The adventure I save for later, I think.

PS2:
******************
Supplement after some time of use, and Windows 8 installation on the eeSlate
******************

Meanwhile, an official from Wacom driver appeared which is easily.
The Eeeslate has proven itself, it is great as a mobile workstation for illustrators. I've been using it extensively and do not want to miss it.

Just Windows 8 is officially came out and I bought it as a digital update and installed last weekend.
The update works well (do previously with the Sytemwiederherstellung a backup of Windows 7 on an external hard drive and create a recovery disk! --- On the Internet there are instructions on how to do it with a USB flash drive, otherwise go with a USB DVD burner ).
Windows 8 is actually pretty great for eeSlate, runs smoothly and combines well with the fingers operate --- unfortunately there are still too many teething so I again yesterday Windows 7 made of the backup to be able to work properly (Bluetooth is not but Asus is working on. Photoshop CS 5.1 has problems with the interface and flickers. But the worst for me is the one the Touch Windows 8 may not exhibit if necessary if, for example working with Manga Studio. When Windows 7 is a hook to one way power in the System Settings under Pen and Touch, then you can only work with the stylus, making in drawing programs do not accidentally with the touch lines. Here it thinks Microsoft that the touch in Windows 8 is as indispensable as the mouse has these Setting possibility rausgenommen. I wait until they have changed that, then I install Windows 8 perhaps again, let's see.).

Edit 2: In addition, I would add that I am 8 returned even after a 2-up with Windows to Windows 7.
Also, I've now upgraded with a larger SSD (in choosing the SSD on the power consumption eighth, had my first SSD when the tray on battery was sucked too much power and brought the computer to crash).
There are still no reasonable possibility under Windows 8 issue the Touch if necessary (only a registry hack and disable the Device Manager, both not exactly elegant and practical), also occur in Windows 8 interface delays in Photoshop 5 and Manga Studio EX4 at Pen -click for certain functions, the cause of which I unfortunately could not find out, and that does not exist under Win 7. I was very annoyed when working on and I am ruefully returned a second time to Windows 7.

I also found that the new BIOS updates for Asus for Win 8 while extending the battery life, but unfortunately make the eeeSlate also pretty lame because the processor often highly overclocked not play if it has clocked down power consumption.
I then recorded an old BIOS (401) for Win7 again and the tablet is running again as fast as the first day, only without the driver issues because the new Wacom driver works beautifully. One could say that it is now as perfect as I would have liked on the first day.

When bios downgrade you have the way from WinFlash from the command line with the / Nodate start so you can einflashen an old BIOS.
