Powerful solo debut

Paper Monsters (Audio CD)

Customer Review

"Paper Monsters", the first solo album of DM singer Dave Gahan is, produces amazingly powerful and solid. Most songs are simple, but Dave's voice and personal lyrics go under your skin. With "Dirty Sticky Floors" he lays right at the beginning punchy going, very rocky and catchy, an absolute earwig (rightly the first single). In "Hold On" the singing could be partly better, otherwise a very nice ballad. Then follow the ghostly "A Little Piece" (goose bumps guaranteed!) And the hard-hitting, aggressive rocker "Bottle Living" (hitverdächtig!). Subsequently, beautifully bleak, bluesy and mysterious, "Black And Blue Again", and the enchanting dreamy, sweet "Stay" (written by Gahan for his daughter). The slight "I Need You" grooves well and spread relaxed atmosphere. "Bitter Apple" is a pleasantly serene, dominated by strings ballad, while my personal favorite, "Hidden Houses", again pushes forward more in the darker Soundgefilde. The dark, even at the end of hammer hard "Goodbye" forms a disturbing conclusion. Conclusion: the solo debut of the DM-front man can be heard! "Paper Monsters" offers something for every taste and leaves you wanting more!
