The Gira Dual I find first visually much more attractive: Although the chassis itself is also made of plastic, but the material acts "serious" and simply looks better than, say, my old FlammEx (then test winner). Together with the surrounding metal grids sees the whole of very attractive, I find (the unit has also won a number of design awards, including the red dot award, which I personally almost a trace exaggerated find - but much nicer than the competition he is safe).
Technically it rises strongly on the pretty uniforms competition by, in addition to optical smoke detectors, and a differential / Maximalmelder contains, ie a temperature detector, which triggers an alarm at a very fast rise in temperature on the one hand or at a certain maximum temperature is exceeded. This dual feature alone puts even the relatively higher price, because if you a cheap smoke detectors * and * buys a cheap temperature detector, then you get priced the Gira Dual getting closer and also has * two * hang ugly devices on the ceiling.
Even apart from that, there are very nice technical features with which the Gira Dual apart significantly from the known to me monotonous competition:
- The fire drill is much quieter than the 'real' alarm. One can therefore test the smoke alarm regularly, without developing any hearing loss or startle the neighbors.
- When the battery is weak and it is dark, then waits for the detector up to twelve hours before it starts with the battery change signal. So you will not wake up when the battery is empty at night. In dark (basement) premises can still use the detectors because not later than twelve hours after singing of the battery voltage, the replacement signal is triggered.
- The smoke detection can be suppressed for a quarter of an hour, for example, when cooking heavily steaming. Here, however, the temperature detection remains active, so real fires are detected within this time.
- Solv- example by cooking or smoking a false alarm, you can cancel it by pressing the large button. With most other devices known to me there's only the removal of the battery, and that's under a roar a very unpleasant task, especially if the room is high.
- In normal operation, that is, if everything is in order, the Gira Dual is no optical signal. Individuals who disturbs the flashing of a smoke detector will appreciate that. Theoretically, of course, involves the a risk: one can not tell whether everything is in order or whether the detector has failed ... the other hand, I have never seen the flash of the old detector conscious and is that a sample alarm without this visually the only way to really convince them of the viability of a smoke alarm - and for triggering test alarms there is the Gira Dual much lower hurdles because it then just not so terribly loud as the competition.
- If you want that, you can completely disable the smoke detection function and then use the detector, for example, in the kitchen or in the bathroom as a pure temperature detector by reacting a DIP switch. But that is certainly a bit academic, because he is expensive for a pure temperature detectors, and ensure only an issue if one is extremely design or want to set up a wireless detector network.
- For the Gira Dual there is a radio module that can plug into the detector and its appearance unchanged. When FlammEx and my knowledge with many others, it is so that the radio modules are mounted as a not so thin "spacer" between the detector and mounting plate, which further impairs the visual appearance there.
Last nor my thought for the price: The Gira Dual is more expensive than the competition, but not so much more expensive when you consider that you have two detectors (smoke and temperature) in one, which one would otherwise have to pay separately and separately the room "spoil" would. And the few euros that he might still costs more the combination of reasonable and equitable smoke temperature detectors of Chinese origin is much better look and genuine "Made in Germany" all worth it to me.
