After Horner's score for "Aliens," says Goldenthal decide now to go on a completely different track: He takes none of the subjects of its predecessors, but composed an a-tonal Psycho / Horror Core. This is already clear when listening to the first track ("Agnus Dei"), which creates the gentle but mysterious woman's voice a particularly grandiose, oppressive atmosphere.
The composer developed for Alien 3 a more operatic style that total a lot more goes into depth and brings the listener in an almost depressive and hopeless mood. This atmosphere he maintains on the total playing time (about 50 minutes) and gives way only rarely of his style from. One of these "dropout" comes in "Wreckage And Rape" to the fore when hard electric guitar sounds einpeitschen on the handset. Knowing the film, then the piece even fits into the overall picture, but also for those who have not seen the movie, it would not be disruptive. Generally it is not necessary to have seen "Alien 3", because the music can stand as an independent work.
This is evident in pieces like "Lento," "Lullaby Elegy", "Explosion And Aftermath", "The Entrapment" or the grand final "Adagio", all of these titles are evidence of Goldenthal's talent, every scene in the movie into something special to make!
Definitely Elliot Goldenthal's score is not easy to digest and for beginners in the field of film music, he is certainly not recommended. Nevertheless, it has managed to create a massive soundtrack composer, who in any way from his predecessors hide consumption. On the contrary: "Alien 3" is a mature composition with tons of potential and classic highlights, which somewhat stands out from the series, but thus the 3rd film gives a very special touch.
