In Detail...
Operation (display, screen, web interface) (not rated: remote app)
+ Two-line display
+ Display is switched off
+ Stable-screen menu, which can also be superimposed on the normal image
+ Menu will appear soon
+ Screen information such as "volume", etc. can be switched off
+ Volume button on the remote control and very gently regulated
- Partially inconsistent operation. On screen leads "right" sometimes to the local points, sometimes only scroll the toolbar. In some places you have to "OK / Enter" again, in other places you come back with "Return" or "Memory".
- The menu structure on the display screen and could be more transparent
- The web interface looks messy and is in the field Net / USB very difficult to operate. Overall, the interface responds very sluggish.
- The web interface is not complete, for example, lacks the manual EQ. On screen operation can not be dispensed with entirely.
- In the field of NET / USB, there were always a few experiments Connect error. Reset the device, delete cookies, Denon tips ... it has everything helped. The rest went interface.
- No bass / treble controls on the unit
Sound (headphones)
+ Very good sound
+ Options as "virtual" or "jazz club" including determining the room size make some songs even better
- EQ, Loudness (called in Denon 'Dynamic EQ'), Dynamic Volume (Day, Evening, Midnight) not available
+ - For a good sound you can use the 'restorer'. This should restore 'missing pieces' of MP3 recordings. Well ... In fact, to be raised depending on the setting bass and treble. While this is positive for headphone sound, but perhaps not the purpose of the Restorer.
Sound (stereo speakers)
+ After calibration in good overall sound (Flat curve + Dynamic EQ). Compared with the analog amplifier (also Denon) in the bass a little intrusive and the ups bit too weak. Without Dynamic EQ too thin.
- While with Flat curve (calibration) or Audessey curve ("improved" Einmesskurve) are Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume are available, but no manual EQ and no tone control (bass, treble)
- The Einmesskurve is not correctable (in any case I have found nothing to do so). After: Boxing level and pit spacing can be edited manually.
- It provides to manual EQ, you can copy the Flat curve and build on this setting or regulate freely. Also equalizer there again. But: Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume omitted. At the top of the EQ is only 6dB to +.
Storage options
+ Enough storage facilities for radio, Internet radio, etc favorites
+ 4 Quick Select buttons that store the EQ and Sound settings to the restorer. You can also place the same input to several keys and then store different sound settings.
- For manual EQ no other storage options
Connections / Zone 2
+ - Two optical or coax inputs are very little in the digital age, but you knew that beforehand. There are optical switch for this problem.
- Tape or DVR-out does not work with digital input signals.
- PREOUT or Zone2 Out also does not work with digital inputs. Thus, Zone2 is not fully satisfying.
Video / HDMI (tested only briefly)
+ Proper routing of HDMI signals with and without HDCP
+ Short switching times
+ Good upscaling Component signals
The PREOUT and the sound settings, in particular the manual EQ, were very important to me. Since the PREOUT with digital sources does not work and more limitations than opportunities exist in the sound settings, the unit will decline. And a web interface should just provide all settings for stereo operation - and that quickly and clearly. Who wants to always wear the television. There are three star deduction.
Who on the other hand actually uses the AVR only for 5.1 / 7.1-Movies-hearing who may be satisfied with the device. High (processing) makes the AVR a good impression and the short video test has been very positive. For this, the two remaining ends Stars.
