I use the disk to store large files (several GB per file). Therefore, I find it depends on high data transfer; Access times are secondary for me.
The ST3000DM001 is sau fast, quiet, economical and is not as hot as other drives in the 7200 class.
As for reliability, I've always been lucky with my Seagate Barracudas. This is now my 6th Barracuda, and I had no problems so far! In this context it should be mentioned that my PCs do not run around the clock. The plate was actually packed exemplary!
